Do first, say later

Published on Posted Tuesday , October 06, 2009

As our sharp tongues welcome the Indian team back to earth, Australia have their critics eating out of their hands. There is no more talk about the 'glory days' being over for Australia. Like the Bruce Springsteen song, Team Australia will always be a hit. The expectations of being called the best are many and India have melted under them. It is always easier to be the underdogs because nobody really minds if you lose. Remember 2007 World T20 or the CB series a few months later in Australia.....

World cricket - Modi-fied

Published on Posted Wednesday, March 25, 2009

For a man who revolutionised cricket, it is surprising to see the number of detractors Lalit Modi has, especially in his own country. The conglomeration of hate articles that have cropped up in one year about Mr. Modi surely makes me wonder, what problem do we really have with him? The BCCI was formed in 1928. How many cricket administrators can you remember? Let me rephrase, how many cricket administrators have done something that you are aware of other than the court cases for forgery, fraud, embezzlement and corruption?....

Ganguly axed: Not justified but not unfair either

Published on Posted Sunday , September 14, 2008

Sourav Ganguly is at a dead-end. He, in all likelihood, will be dropped from India's Test squad. Is it fair? There are two ways to look at it. In terms of statistics or in purely cricketing context, Ganguly deserves a chance or for that matter, quite few of them. Let's go by the facts first. If Sachin Tendulkar's heroic performances in the CB series are claimed as reasons not to axe him before Ganguly, then the Bengal player's determined knock in the last Test before....

Time to 'Test' Dhoni

Published on Posted Tuesday , August 12, 2008

He may have his share of critics, but Mahendra Singh Dhoni is certainly India's lucky charm. Not only that, it also can't be denied that India's Test vice-captain is a vital cog that cannot be replaced in any version of the game. And now, after the thrashing in Sri Lanka, maybe never rested. It is more than evident now that India, without Dhoni, is a team without its soul, searching for answers more often rather than asking questions of the opponents. Dhoni's decision to opt out of the....

Warne's wizardry wand

Published on Posted Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Trust Shane Warne to make news like nobody else. Off the field his wild escapades have earned him the tag of 'cricket's bad boy', but when on it, he transcends into a genius, who even after 18 years in international cricket, continues to astound the world. Warne's wizardry with the ball is part of folklore, but thanks to the Indian Premier League, a more fascinating facet has come onto the foreground. Ian Chappell had once said - "Shane Warne is the best captain that Australia never had." The world....

Pace is all we need

Published on Posted Friday , July 13, 2007

"There is no dearth of talent" is a quote we have heard umpteen times from ex-cricketers and cricket officials in India and Pakistan, both of whose fates have been running parallel in recent months. The cricket Boards of both the countries have faced a lot of flack in recent times owing to the lackluster performances in the World Cup and the whole "coach fiasco" that the neighbors have gone through. However, there is one major difference, which has stood out, between India and Pakistan. India have been lagging....
