Time to rethink strategy

Published on Posted Wednesday, June 17, 2009

India's unimpressive performance in the on-going World Twenty20 tournament is a bad dream. Otherwise how would one explain the three defeats in a row to the West Indies, England and South Africa within a span of six days after the same team under Mahendra Singh Dhoni had brought so much of joy with consistent and impressive performances in the near past. One shudders to even think the 2007 victory and the performances of the team after that as mere flukes as no team can ride only on luck.....

Dhoni's blunders cost India dearly

Published on Posted Monday , June 15, 2009

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's blunders as skipper and as a batsman cost India dearly against England. The result was fatal as the defending champions were knocked out of the ICC World T20 by the hosts on a gloomy Sunday night. It is hard to digest how India's 'captain cool' made so many tactical blunders in a game which his team was expected to win hands down. Having been in this kind of a situation during my playing career, I was shocked to see the Indians' negative body language even....

Wake-up call for Dhoni's men

Published on Posted Saturday , June 13, 2009

It needed a fabulous all-round performance by Dwayne Bravo to bring reigning champions India and its skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni back to earth and give them the much needed wake-up call before their bid to retain the World Twenty20 crown slipped out of their grasp. Though it was a collective failure from the Indian team, who were dealt a seven-wicket drubbing by the much improved West Indies, I would like to point out that Dhoni over-did the bowling changes in a bid to unsettle his West Indies counterpart Chris....

Rohit is right replacement for Sehwag

Published on Posted Thursday , June 11, 2009

Rohit Sharma looks to be the right choice to open the Indian batting in the on-going World Twenty20 after the swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag was ruled out of the mega event due to a shoulder injury. Rohit is doing very well as an opener and the additional responsibility of opening the batting seems to have made him more mature and has really curbed his earlier instincts of attacking every ball. He has been a total revelation and is the right choice to open the batting with Gautam Gambhir, who....

Yuvi's knock was turning point

Published on Posted Monday , June 08, 2009

Even though India's victory against Bangladesh in their opening World Twenty20 league match was a team effort, I would like to point out Yuvraj's blistering 41 off 18 balls was the turning point of the match simply because the champions got back the momentum they were looking for. Yuvi really showed his class and being a big fan of his I love to see him bat as he makes his batting look like 'a poetry in motion'. When on song, Yuvi can tear any bowling apart and I for....

More about Maninder Singh

Maninder Singh represented India in 35 Test matches and 59 ODIs. With his slow left-arm orthodox spin, Maninder was considered as an heir to Bishan Singh Bedi who then held the record as India's leading spinner in terms of wickets. Maninder is famous for forcing a tie on the Madras Test against Australia in 1986-87 series. He is a cricket commentator now a days.
