One may argue that other Indians don’t do any better in similar situations but then we are discussing the God of cricket or at least that of Indian cricket. His figures in test matches are much better but in pressure situation especially in ODI he has shown feet of clay. Agreed there are huge public expectations but again they are more in home matches and then what is greatness all about.

more raaj You said SRT & SG scored 82% and 75 % against major nations respectively.I strongly feel that it is not a proper criteria to take into account because these two batsmen played major nations in lot more number of games than they played against minnows.So obviously percentage of total runs scored will be more against these major nations.It would have been better if you had considered AVERAGE score rather than PERCENTAGE that too ONLY in RECENT times because how they performed 10 years ago is not important now.Consistency is a major issue to be looked at whether it be likes of Sachin or Ganguly or new comers like Gambhir.Rules should be same to everyone.By the way , I completely agree with your opinion that players like Sachin and Ganguly recieve more criticism than they actually deserve.It would be foolish to expect them to perform as well as they did in past during their good times.Fans should be sensible enough to forgive them if they fail in one or two matches if their present consistency is good enough for any other player in their positions. INCLUDING me.. but hey.. so sachin and saurav WERE the greatest opening pair in history.. not possibly.. they WERE.. but u know .. kapil was also one of india''s prime bowler.. u cant stick to a player if he WAS the best.. the thing is .. u need to perform ..to stay in the game.. and these "seniors" are SO used to sitting on their asses because .. BECAUSE they know they HAVE a place.. no matter a century against bangla or a duck against australia.. stats speak a LOT but SO DOES consistency.. which i''m sorry to say they lack... seriously if they ARE as great as they WERE or their stats say.. hbsuharsh Very well put Budhadita! It is true that there are others in the team who don''t even come close to these two guys but yet only these two are in the limelight. To add to your blog - Sachin carrier one more stain - let''s say he scores a century against Australia and we lose, then the critics and the junta says - well whenever Sachin plays we lose!!! What?!?!? Nobody realizes that there were 10 other players who should have put up a fight too! Poor Sachin, if he plays then it is problem and if he doesn''t play even then. Of course, as you pointed out if he playes against minnows and we win, even then he receives flak.
