Come on! Lets look at the real reasons! You cannot have two seperate authorities within crciket in India which is what ICL is doing. At least, ''bad'' BCCI is a public entity unlike ''good'' Essel group who are a private entity and owned by a few people. We should be careful what we wish for! Make no mistake this is about power and a lot is at stake. If BCCI loses, then we may be back to the bad old days of the english and australians telling us what to do as in the 1980s. Already we can see the ECB trying to gain back their old position. Be careful what we wish for!

What if an icl player is drafted into a team after the Indian player has played a few matches for his contracted team.. This is a possibility. In the eyes of the BCCI is a rebel league ,ok, but this is sort of ban is carrying the pot too far.

It is really shameful. The BCCI is taking this too far. IPL conveniently copied the format from ICL and was an instant hit because it had fgood grounds to play the matches. ICL is a good venture and i sincerely hope they are recognised. I wish someone takes the board to court.

Mr cricket
I just love the third option of where the player has to decipher Niranjan Shahs Diktum. I just dont see why the BCCI does not take a leaf out of the West INdies cricekt board and use the resources of the ICL like Stanford''s case with the Carebbbein cricekt board. I guess the BCCI must be the only orgnization that does not care about its image in eyes of its consumers

From the day it came into existence it was clear that IPL will devour evrything before it. ODI is the first casulity. Cricket is going to become T20 driven sports and I am afraid nobody can stop it.

Continued....Cricket though is another story in the ICC it has a toothless tiger as its chief which has being bullied and held ransom far more often than Paris Hilton has given ath world a glimps of her privates (and thats saying something). More worryingly though it has yielded on most of these occaisons, so its really not a surprise that the ICC has not made much noise on this appallling move by the BCCI.The problem is quite simple, cricket (whether we like it or not) is not yet a global sport. And as such the power is in the hands of a few (here it can be argued that it is with just one). The only reason that F1 or football don''t face such problems is bcause of the members that their respective governing bodies have. All the ICL did was unearth some talent which wa overlooked by the BCCI. Surely this was a service to the game. And if the ICC had any fight left in it the ICL woul''ve received more encouragement instead of being classified as outcasts. The real root of this fiasco is an ineffective ICC (though BCCI is the major culprit). If the ICC gets its spine back surely it can put an end to such shenanigans.

It is not uncommon or indeed a new phenomenon that the richest body in a particular discipline of sports throws its weight around and more often than not gets away with it. We see it all the time with Ferrari in F1, with the G14 clubs in European club football and now unfortunately with the BCCI and its incestuous child - The IPL. However this lastest entrant in the unenviable group has a peculiar obssesion with wanting to destroy anything and everything not conforming to its wishes. As Mr. Ghosh rightly points out the treatment met out to ICL players and any bodies associated with them is nothing short of apartheid. This sort of tactic of banning/banashing players has a familiar ring to it. Football clubs often intimidate their player with heavy penalties if they express their desire to play for their countries in international friendlies or the Olympics. Thankfully for football though it has a governing body which still has some venom left in its glands. ....to b continued

The icl ban is over done I wish some body to file defamation against BCCI to stop this interference in individual rights within legal norms.

Great article, hats off.It is high time that ex-cricketers be made the administrators as well, for this bunch of people in the BCCI will ruin the cricketing system of our country, with their knowledge of the game,or rather lack of it.Why are people like Gavaskar,Shastri,Srikanth etc not given position in BCCI ,where in they can apply their vast knowledge of the game to implement some good thoughtful plans.

hey sachin kumar , you must be joking. do you really think that the GOONDARAJ of the BCCI will end with such type of articles ? What we need is courage and intergrety from the players with the support of the public and above all unity among all to get rid of the corrupt policies of these so called cricket lovers who are only after money by any means.
