Commentary (Kolkata Knight Riders innings)

Phew! That brings us to the end of an action-packed tournament which went all the way down to the last over of the match. Kolkata are the deserved winners but spare a thought for Chennai and the other teams, who fought bravely. This win means that the next year's final will be at the Eden Gardens, KOLKATA. It has been absolutely wonderful in bringing this edition of the Indian T20 League to you. Thank you for being us. On behalf of all the scorers, commentators and all the support staff, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

And the celebrations begin as team Kolkata celebrate with the trophy! The Kolkata team is beside itself with joy! They are the champions of 2012!

Victorious Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir says that whenever the team needed a strong performance, the guys delivered. Praises the crowd for supporting them even when the side was not performing well. Has a special word of praise for Lakshmipathy Balaji and adds that they played for him. On Bisla, he praises him for playing a wonderful knock against Chennai in their own backyard. Adds that a captain is as good as his team and says that the dressing room has got some great potential and can be a force to reckon in the future. On him not changing his position in the last 5 overs of the chase, Gambhir recounts a game when he, after being dismissed, took off his pads and gloves and his team failed to chase down a small total from a winning position. Admits that he will go over to KOLKATA for one final party.

It is now time for the winning team to come and take the medals!

Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni says that 190 was a good score but adds that in the second half of the match, the pitch started playing better. Credits Kallis and Bisla for making the chase look effortless. On his own team's batting, he says that a few more runs could have come, but given that the pitch was on the slower side in the first innings, the batsmen batted well. Feels that there was no reverse swing in the second innings. Overall, he is happy with his team's performance for coming back well in the later stages.

One more award - THE PITCH AND OUTFIELD AWARD to be shared by BANGALORE, MOHALI, DELHI and JAIPUR. The umpires get their medallions. The Chennai team now comes up to get the individual medals.

Another award - This is for the Golden Player of the Season. THAT GOES TO SUNIL NARINE. A wonderful season for him. He says that it has been a pleasure to come over here and win. On his supporters in the Caribbean, he says that he got a lot of backing up from family and that gave him a lot of confidence. Is waiting to go to England and perform well for the West Indies.

Team Jaipur gets the Fairplay Award. Rahul Dravid says that the key element in this competition is maintaining the over-rate and one can play hard and fair as well. On the final, he feels that it was fantastic and hopes for an even better tournament next year.

DAVID HUSSEY GETS AN AWARD FOR THE BEST CATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT. AB DE VILLIERS GETS ONE for the outstanding performance of the tournament, 47 from 18 balls against Hyderabad. CHRIS GAYLE gets an award for being the LEADING RUN SCORER OF THE TOURNAMENT. MORNE MORKEL gets an award for being the LEADING WICKET TAKER OF THE TOURNAMENT.

MANDEEP SINGH GETS AN AWARD AS THE MOST PROMISING TALENTED YOUNG STAR. Says that he is feeling pretty happy and this is a big award for him.

MANVINDER SINGH BISLA HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He says that he is feeling very happy, especially with the fact that he played a part in his team's win. Adds that Brendon McCullum is a great player and a legend in himself. Cheekily admits that till the last ball was bowled, he did not think that the trophy was theirs. Adds that it will be party all night long!

Time for the awards. Maximum sixes award - Suresh Raina. Catch of the match award - Shakib Al Hasan.

Mark Boucher has a word of praise for his South African team-mates Kallis and Albie Morkel and also for Bisla. He tweets, "Great final!Well played Bis and Jakes!Well deserved!Celebrations will be good, but well done to Berg(albiemorkel)"

It is taking an eternity for the presentation to begin. It is somewhere down the corner and we are patiently waiting for it.....lots of awards to be given tonight......

Ben Hilfenhaus was the best bowler, not only for Chennai but for the entire match. Well, Kolkata have seemingly done a combination of impossible things. First, they have beaten Chennai at their home ground. That too, chasing down 191. And, in a final. Awesome stuff. The team owners and support staff have gone bonkers out there and the fire-crackers are set ablaze! Up they go! BOOM! BASH! BANG! Tee off!

A great batting display from both sides but each suffered in the bowling department. Kolkata started off poorly, losing Gambhir cheaply but Bisla and Kallis kept them going with a stunning 136-run stand in 82 balls. Bisla in particular, took the attack to the opposition and after he departed, Kallis took on the attacking role. It became a bit too close for comfort for Kolkata, but they managed to pull it off and held on to their nerves while Hilfenhaus and Bravo lost theirs.

Terrific scenes out there. The Kolkata players are running out madly and wildly, not quite sure whom to hug as someone is hugging someone or the other. The Chepauk crowd have been stunned to quietness and the sea of purple and gold takes over the yellow brigade. Now, time for the customary shake of the hands.

Very unlike Mahendra Singh Dhoni to spend so much time with his bowler on every single ball! Time-wasting....

19.2 D Bravo to Al Hasan, Full toss wide outside off, Shakib gets down and drags it towards deep mid-wicket for a run. Tiwary has charged back for the second, half way down but Shakib cannot get back. 7 needed from 4 balls! 184/5

Comes around the wicket....

19.1 D Bravo to M Tiwary, Good length delivery on middle, Tiwary charges down the track and swings it straight to Ashwin at square leg. The batsmen go for the single and Ashwin misses his shy at the striker's end. A direct hit would have consumed Shakib. 8 needed from 5 balls! 183/5

18.6 Ben Hilfenhaus to Al Hasan, FOUR! Well played! Low full toss on middle, 139.9 kph, Shakib gets across and scoops it over Morkel at short fine leg! An expensive over from Hilfenhaus, has that no ball cost Chennai the match? 182/5

18.5 Ben Hilfenhaus to J Kallis, OUT! Caught! Hilfenhaus gets Kallis! Low full toss outside off, Kallis smashes it uppishly but straight to Jadeja in the deep at the cover boundary! The throw is a little wide to Dhoni who attempts the back-flick but misses the stumps at the striker's end. Had he hit, Shakib was a goner. 174/4

18.2 Ben Hilfenhaus to Al Hasan, Oohhh...good ball! Short outside off, 131.5 kph, Shakib lets it go. He waits for the wide call but it doesn't come. 172/4

Ayaz Memon tweets, "In the context of nature of pitch and runs given by most bowlers today, Narine hasn;t done badly at all..."

Dhoni and Hilfenhaus having a chat. Taking some time. Slowing things down.

Commentary (Chennai Super Kings innings)

Woohoo! Finally we are ready for the presentation! At long last!

19.4 D Bravo to M Tiwary, FOUR! KOLKATA WIN BY 5 WICKETS! They are the new champions! Short outside off, 131.6 kph, Tiwary pulls it through mid-wicket and the ball meets the fence! Celebrations all around for the men in purple and gold! 192/5

19.3 D Bravo to M Tiwary, FOUR! He gets it away! That could be the hit that wins the game! Length delivery on middle, 108.9 kph, Tiwary gets across and swings it over square leg for a boundary! Just 3 needed from 3 now! 188/5

A very strong performance from the top three in the form of Murali Vijay, Michael Hussey, the birthday boy and Suresh Raina means Chennai have pulled up a mammoth 190 on the board. Raina finally struck big after having a horrendous run in the tournament. Narine's magic was also thwarted by the south-paw Raina and Kolkata need a miraculous batting display.

19.6 Al Hasan to S Raina, OUT! Raina goes on the last ball but not before giving collateral damage to Kolkata. A low full toss, Raina does not time his slog well as the ball was dying before deep mid-wicket. Lee gushes in from the ropes and takes a good low catch. 190/3

19.5 Al Hasan to S Raina, Oh man that's one more single just gifted away! Raina drills it through mid off. Abdulla throws to Bisla at the striker's end who makes a meal out of it to allow the extra run. 190/2

19.4 Al Hasan to S Raina, Bowls full outside off, Raina smashes it wide of mid off. A fumble in the deep and they take the second. 188/2

19.3 Al Hasan to MS Dhoni, Fuller, Dhoni slogs it through mid-wicket. Has to settle for one as Raina did not want the second one. 186/2

19.2 Al Hasan to S Raina, Darts in full, Raina heaves it away over square leg for just one. 185/2

19.1 Al Hasan to MS Dhoni, Hits the yorker length, Dhoni unfurls the helicopter shot, but all along the ground for one at long on. 184/2

19.1 Al Hasan to MS Dhoni, WIDE! Bowls a wide delivery outside off, Dhoni leaves it. Tough call for Shakib. 183/2

It will be Brett Lee to bowl first up. So, here we go, for the big final!

Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey are the openers for Chennai.

With Ravi Shastri's announcement on the mic, the players make their way out the middle on a red carpet. Billy Bowden and Simon Taufel will officiate in this big final. The national anthem is being played as well.

Three changes for Kolkata. The injured Lakshmipathy Balaji is replaced by Brett Lee, while Brendon McCullum paves way for Manvinder Bisla. Manoj Tiwary also comes back in place of Debabrata Das. Chennai go unchanged for this big final.

It is Ravi Shastri's birthday as he conducts the toss on this final. MS Dhoni wins the toss and Chennai will bat first! A bit of grass today, reckons Dhoni. Gambhir reckons that they chase good as well and that he counts on his three spinners. Feels that it is going Chennai's way but hopes to put his best foot forward tonight.

So here we are. We have reached the summit of this year's Indian T20 league. It will be the defending champions, Chennai who will defend their title against a team, who have entered the finals for the first time, Kolkata. Going by the momentum, Chennai have humbled Mumbai and Delhi on their way to the final and they would also hold the trump card as they play at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Dwayne Bravo to bowl the final over. 9 needed. It is taking an eternity for him to bowl. All sorts of discussions.

18.6 Ben Hilfenhaus to Al Hasan, NO BALL! This is a high full toss and Shakib heaves this in the air. The ball goes towards long on where Vijay runs across and takes the catch. He runs around in celebration but then realizes late that it is a no ball! Two runs taken, so three overall to the total! 178/5

Tiwary walks in. 16 needed from 7 balls.

18.5 Ben Hilfenhaus to J Kallis, OUT! Caught! Hilfenhaus gets Kallis! Low full toss outside off, Kallis smashes it uppishly but straight to Jadeja in the deep at the cover boundary! The umpires check for the landing of the foot, it is fine, then for the height, that too, is fine and Kallis has to go. He departs for 69, KOLKATA 175/5 IN 18.5 OVERS! 175/5

18.4 Ben Hilfenhaus to Al Hasan, Full outside off, Shakib looks to drive but gets a leading edge to mid off. A single taken. 175/4

18.3 Ben Hilfenhaus to Al Hasan, Length ball on middle, Shakib heaves it towards deep mid-wicket. Jakati jogs around to his right and Shakib charges back for the second.

18.1 Ben Hilfenhaus to J Kallis, Full outside off, Kallis lofts it easily over covers but cannot run that easily. He is struggling with cramps. What should have been a couple, is a single. 19 needed from 11 balls. 172/4

Shakib Al Hasan to bowl the last over!

18.6 S Narine to S Raina, This time crouches low and slogs it wide of mid-wicket for two. 11 off that Narine over. He finishes today for 4-0-37-0. Not his best day in the office as it's his most expensive spell in the tournament. 182/2

18.5 S Narine to S Raina, SIX! Has anyone in the tournament picked up Narine better than Raina today? Length outside off, Raina just chips down the track and straight-bats it sweetly over long off. 180/2

18.4 S Narine to MS Dhoni, Plays it away through mid-wicket now for one. 174/2

18.3 S Narine to S Raina, Short again, a poor delivery, Raina has ample time to pull it over mid-wicket. Abdulla from long on, gets around as the ball lands in front of the ropes. Does well to keep the ball inside the ropes. Tiwary with the back up work. Horrible running as only one was taken. 173/2

18.2 S Narine to MS Dhoni, This time plays it down off the outside edge to short third man to give Raina the strike. 172/2

18.1 S Narine to MS Dhoni, The carrom ball, short as well, Dhoni gets an under-edge on that. 171/2

Dhoni turns to Ben Hilfenhaus to bowl the 19th over. 20 needed from 12 balls. 3-0-14-1 so far for the big Ben. Memories of that over against Mumbai where Dwayne Smith carted him around will come to mind....

Okay....Kallis is up and ready to resume the battle.

17.2 R Ashwin to J Kallis, Full outside off, Kallis drives this through the covers for a couple. 166/4

17.6 J Kallis to MS Dhoni, Pulled away this time through mid-wicket for one. 11 off that Kallis over. 171/2
