Commentary (Sydney Sixers innings)

One game done and dusted, a bit boring and we await the start of the second. Yorkshire taking on Mumbai in a few minutes' time. Stay tuned.

Right. Sydney has one foot in the semi-finals and if a couple of games go their way, they should be in even before they play Mumbai in their last match, which is at Durban on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 1530 GMT (2100 IST). The Lions now need to win their last fixture against Yorkshire at Johannesburg, on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 1130 GMT (1700 IST) to avoid the net run-rate calculations.

MITCHELL STARC HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Says that the bowlers had to work hard for getting their wickets as there was neither swing nor seam movement. But admits that the conditions are much better than the ones in Sri Lanka during the T20 World Cup. Is enjoying the challenge and the cut-throat competition with the other quickies in his own side.

Victorious Sydney Sixers captain Brad Haddin does not mince words while saying that his team were very patchy. Did not get off to a good start with the ball but then came back. Great start with the bat but then almost made a mess of it. Wishes Watson luck for the upcoming Test series against South Africa and the preparations. Feels that the squad has the back-up to fill for Watson.

Highveld Lions skipper Alviro Petersen says that his team got off to a bad start with the bat under batting conditions. Hopes to learn from these mistakes in the next match. Praises Aaron Phangiso and feels that the latter is very under-rated. However, feels that a couple of overs were very poor, else they could have been right in it.

Aaron Phangiso stands out with an exceptional 3/14 in 4 overs, while Dirk Nannes was brilliant too. But 137 was always going to be difficult to defend, especially when you do not get early wickets.

A comprehensive win for Sydney. Bowling under non-helpful conditions and nearly paying the price for it, but the bowlers came back well in the second half of the innings. The batting was hardly an issue and the men in pink were always in the front. May be, for a brief moment, when Lumb, Watson and Thornely were dismissed in quick succession but the middle order ensured that there was no harakiri.

Commentary (Highveld Lions innings)

A terrific effort from the Sixers to restrict the Lions to 137! The Lions got off to a good start courtesy their openers. Bodi continued his good run and steadied the ship along with McKenzie after the departures of Petersen and de Kock in quick succession. But McKenzie departed at a crucial juncture. The Lions never got the momentum going from then on. They managed just 38/5 in the last 5 overs. 60/7 overall in the last 10. Starc bowled splendidly and ended up with 3/19. The Sixers should chase down the target easily but you never know in this format of the game! Join us back in a while for their reply.

19.6 M Starc to D Nannes, Drills it to mid on and takes a single! Lions end on 137/9! 137/9

19.5 M Starc to D Nannes, Looks to cart it over the off side but misses. 136/9

Dirk Nannes is the new batsman.

19.4 M Starc to A Phangiso, OUT! Hits it straight to the fielder! Very full outside off, Phangiso backs off and rams it straight to extra cover where Thornely pouches it safely. 136/9

19.3 M Starc to C Morris, Pushes it to covers for a single. 136/8

Aaron Phangiso is the new batsman.

19.2 M Starc to T Tsolekile, OUT! Run out! A suicidal run! Tsolekile mistimes his heave to mid-wicket and sets off for a non-existent run. Watson stationed there picks up and runs all the way to the bowler's end and whips the bails off as Tsolekile is found well short. 135/8

19.1 M Starc to C Morris, Just short! Backs off and lofts it on one bounce to deep cover for a single. 135/7

18.6 S Tanvir to S Smith, FOUR! SYDNEY SIXERS WIN BY 5 WICKETS! And also become the first team to qualify for the semis. Fuller length ball outside off, 130 kph, Smith comes forward and drives it straight down the ground and finds the ropes. 141/5

18.5 S Tanvir to S Smith, Short outside off, 122 kph, Smith pulls it through mid-wicket. A bit of a sloppy fielding in the deep but just the two runs taken. Just one needed for victory now. 137/5

18.4 S Tanvir to S Smith, FOUR! Busy player, is Steven Smith. Charges down the track and smashes it over the covers for a boundary. Nearly there now, the Sixers. 135/5
