Commentary (South Africa innings)

International cricket from the men's side takes a break tomorrow. We will be back on Thursday to cover the Sri Lanka-Pakistan game. Remember, PAKISTAN MAINTAIN THEIR RECORD OF MANAGING TO GET TO THE SEMI-FINALS IN WT20! Until next time, on behalf of the commentators and scorers, Adios! Take Care!

Right! We have our semi-finalists - Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies. The first semi-final will be played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Thursday, 4th October, 2012 at 1330 GMT (1900 IST) and then on the following day, on Friday, Australia meet West Indies at 1330 GMT. There is the Women's game too where England meet New Zealand in the first semi-final followed by the Australia-West Indies clash there as well!

YUVRAJ SINGH HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Says that it is just nice to get a few wickets but wanted to do well with the bat too. Admits that he needs a bit of time to spend in the middle. Hopes to get his body fitter by playing some domestic cricket. Adds that he has been practicing his bowling a lot. Is happy with his fitness overall and also with his fielding in the previous game where he was able to dive around.

Victorious Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni says that he is a bit disappointed, not because of the game but because they are going out in spite of doing well in the last two games. Is proud of his boys for doing really well and adds that one cannot control how the other teams played. Admits that there were instances in this tournament when they could have scored a bit quickly and lost momentum from overs 10-15 because they are a side which depends on a good platform. On being questioned as to why was Ashwin brought late into the attack, he says that he was concentrating to put the pressure on in the first 6 overs and then taking the pace of the ball with part-timers from a particular end. Also says that India has not clicked as a team. Batted and bowled brilliantly in patches but when it mattered against top sides, they needed consistency. Also blames the rain against Australia partly for India's early exit.

South African skipper AB de Villiers says that disappointed is not even the word to describe the feeling and says that he is speechless at the moment. Apologizes for letting the country and its fans down. Feels that the Proteas did all the preparations possible and they had the skills but unfortunately, could not play well at all. Praises Faf du Plessis and is pleased with his performance.

One team has won, the other has lost, but both sides will feel very downcast at the moment. Both needed Australia to beat Pakistan earlier, which did not happen while post that, India could not quite post a score big enough to knock Pakistan out. de Villiers will be extremely hurt that his side failed to win a single game in the Super Eights and he certainly has got a much better team than that. India will feel hard done by, as with some luck, they could have been on the opposite end of where they are now...

Good news for India... by virtue of this win, they move to the SECOND SPOT in the ICC T20I Rankings.

Actually, it is a terrific bowling display from India and it was only Faf du Plessis who was the difference between the two teams with his fluent 65. Zaheer finally bowled his heart out, after a rather quiet tournament, with 3 scalps while Balaji, though expensive, managed to get 3 as well. Fine effort from Yuvraj Singh too, giving India the hope that they could make it to the final four.

Well, plenty of eyes were focused on the score 121 rather than 153 because India needed to restrict South Africa to something lesser than that to go through. Once 121 was surpassed, only then did the crowd realize after a while that there was a game to be won. Credit to both the teams for making the final Super Eight match a thriller...

19.5 L Balaji to M Morkel, OUT! BOWLED! INDIA WIN BY 1 RUN! Full and straight, Morne swings hard but misses and the ball crashes into the base of off stump. India do not celebrate exactly but this is a good win for them. Surely... he would not be wanting a repeat here... 145/8

17.6 Z Khan to A Morkel, Inswinging delivery, 132 kph, Albie looks to flick but gets a thick inside edge past the leg stump towards square leg. A run taken. 3 runs and 2 wickets from that over, could well be a match-winning one. Xaheer finishes with an outstanding spell of 4-0-22-3. 129/7

17.2 Z Khan to F Behardien, OUT! Caught! Length ball on middle, 133.3 kph, Behardien walks down the pitch but the ball shoots of a length and climbs onto him. He ends up fending at it and such good is the wood on his bat that the ball carries all the way to Suresh Raina at long on! There is a deafening roar around the ground. This is actually a rare sight. Hardly do you see fans not cheering India on a cricket field but it has just happened. A big contingent of Pakistan supporters has just erupted as PAKISTAN have gone through to the semi-finals along with Australia! Which means, the two teams playing currently are out of the tournament. Now then... can we focus our attention to something important as well? There is a match to be won here.... Third successive time have India failed to make it to the semi-finals of a T20 World Cup...

15.4 R Ashwin to R Peterson, Bowled but not out because it is a free hit. And he gets dismissed twice on two balls, and still gets to play the next ball. Fired in on leg stump, 102.7 kph, Peterson goes for the reverse sweep this time and misses. Leg stump uprooted. Peterson has a wry smile on his face. Two poor shots. 110/5

12.6 Y Singh to F Behardien, Bad ball, a full toss outside off, 94.7 kph, Behardien drives it through mid off. Suresh Raina slips in the deep to his left which makes it easy for the batsmen to come back for the second. 8 runs and a wicket from the over, Yuvraj finishes with figures of 4-0-23-2. 11.2 L Balaji to du Plessis, Great work from the sky camera to take the picture from above, but seriously, that angle when the ball is being bowled... not so sure. 7.4 R Sharma to du Plessis, That is the effect of what umpire Tucker said to Raina and that is unfair. Another paddle shot from du Plessis and this time Raina does not move at all. Two more runs to the total. One can agree of a fielder not playing in the eye line of the batsman while the ball is being bowled but behind the batsman? Debatable. 56/3

The square leg umpire has a word with Suresh Raina. The chat is about Raina moving before the ball was played by the batsman. Replays show that he waited for du Plessis to complete his shot. Touch harsh on Raina, I guess.

7.3 R Sharma to du Plessis, Cheeky, very cheeky. Full on middle, 80.8 kph, du Plessis gets well across and plays the paddle shot. First bowling change from MS Dhoni. With two right-handers in the middle, Yuvraj Singh comes into the attack.

4.1 Z Khan to du Plessis, Fuller length delivery outside off, Faf gets forward and pushes it to covers for a couple. 23/2

3.4 I Pathan to du Plessis, Full outside off, 134.4 kph, left alone. 16/2

Faf du Plessis is the new batsman out in the middle. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag is limping out of the field? Yes, he is. While celebrating with the bowler, he jumped too high and when he landed, he went over his ankle! Has hurt himself.

3.3 I Pathan to J Kallis, OUT! Caught! The pressure gets to King Kallis and he is gone! India with a real chance of not only winning this game but also restricting the Proteas to 121 or less! Kallis, who was not looking comfortable at all out there, came down the track and looked to smash this over the top. Was not to the pitch of the ball at all and got it from the inside part of the bat. The ball flew towards short mid-wicket where Rohit Sharma took it neatly. 1.4 I Pathan to J Kallis, Full on middle, Kallis nudges it towards square leg and two Indian openers from opposite direction are chasing after it. Sehwag from mid-wicket, Gambhir from the deep. The latter gets to the ball and Kallis is back for the second. Smart running. 8/1

Commentary (India innings)

Sad way to bow out of the tournament, it has not been a bad one at all, finishing with 4 wins out of 5.... harder luck for South Africa, they go out with three losses on the trot. 151/10

19.4 L Balaji to M Morkel, SIX! What a hit! The game is still alive, folks! Short ball outside off, Morne pulls it with disdain over deep square leg! 2 needed from 2 balls now! 151/9

19.3 L Balaji to M Morkel, Slower ball, landed on a length outside off, Morne goes for the pull but is beaten by the slowness of it! 8 needed from 3 balls now! 145/9

Morne Morkel replaces his brother...

19.2 L Balaji to A Morkel, OUT! Drags it on! Terrific comeback! Full and right in the blockhole, outside off, 130.1 kph, Albie looks to steer it to third man but only gets a thick inside edge back onto the stumps! That should be the game for India. Albie departs for 10, SOUTH AFRICA 145/9 IN 19.2 OVERS, 8 NEEDED FROM 4 BALLS! 145/9

19.1 L Balaji to A Morkel, SIX! Going, going..... gone! Slower ball on middle, Morkel was waiting for it, got underneath it and slogged it miles over deep mid-wicket! 8 needed from 5 balls now! Is this deja vu for Balaji? Remember the Australia-India game in Australia when Brett Lee lofted him over extra cover in the last over for a six to almost seal the game? Surely... he would not be wanting a repeat here... 145/8

India will be disappointed to have posted just 152 on the board! They now need to restrict the Proteas to 121 to qualify for the semis! They got off to a bad start losing Gambhir, Kohli and Sehwag inside the Powerplay. Yuvraj and Sharma resurrected the innings with a 32-run stand for the 4th wicket. They lost the momentum in the middle overs but Raina and Dhoni powered them to a decent total with a late flurry. South Africa have nothing to lose here and will go all out! The Indians will have to bowl out of their skins in order to restrict the Proteas below 121. Join us in a while for South Africa's reply!

19.6 J Kallis to S Raina, OUT! Run out! India end on 152/6! Fullish outside off, Raina drills it to long off. Dhoni has already set off from the other end. They run through for a single, Dhoni calls for a risky second. The throw comes in, Raina dives inside, de Villiers doesn't whip off the bails in the first attempt but then whips it off in the second as Raina is found just short. 152/6

Appeal for a run out! The umpire has gone upstairs!

19.5 J Kallis to MS Dhoni, Drills it with the helicopter effect to long on for just a single. 151/5

19.4 J Kallis to MS Dhoni, FOUR! Audacious sweep! Fullish outside off, Dhoni gets down on one knee and sweeps it from way outside the off stump for a boundary through square leg. 150/5

19.3 J Kallis to S Raina, Back of a length delivery outside off, Raina pulls it to long on for just a single. 146/5

19.2 J Kallis to MS Dhoni, Misses out! Full toss on off, Dhoni drills it uppishly but straight to long on on one bounce for a single. 145/5

Third man drops back, point is in!

19.1 J Kallis to S Raina, Low full toss on middle, Raina heaves it to deep mid-wicket for just a single. 144/5

Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are the two batsmen at the crease. Dale Steyn will start off proceedings for South Africa.

The players have made their way out for the national anthems.

India - Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni(Wk/C), Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Zaheer Khan.

South Africa - Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Jean-Paul Duminy, AB de Villiers(Wk/C), Farhaan Behardien, Albie Morkel, Robin Peterson, Johan Botha, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel.

Toss - South Africa have won the toss and elected to field. Two changes for them as Faf du Plessis and Albie Morkel replace Richard Levi and Wayne Parnell. The Indians are unchanged. So now, the Indians need to win at least by 32 runs if they score 160 and at least by 31 runs if they score 140 in order to edge out Pakistan on net run rate and qualify for the semis.

Pitch - Still a good track, very hard. Will assist spinners but if the spin is played well then the track is full of runs.

The Proteas have been knocked out of the tournament after the Pakistan victory. The Indians need to win comfortably to qualify for the semis and knock Pakistan out on net run rate. The Proteas would be playing for pride, whereas the Indians would be looking to go all out in their pursuit for the semi-final spot. A cracker of a contest is definitely on cards.

Hello and welcome to the coverage of the Super Eight clash between India and South Africa in Colombo.

A big contingent of Pakistan supporters has just erupted as PAKISTAN have gone through to the semi-finals along with Australia! Which means, the two teams playing currently are out of the tournament.
