Nothing much for Kolkata tonight. Threw away the advantage gained with the bat in the Powerplay and the bowlers never really could get themselves in. Narine saved some grace for Kolkata.

Commentary (Kolkata Knight Riders innings)

Have Kolkata go enough? The pitch looks sluggish and the outfield is even more slow. However, with the dew factor coming around, the bowlers might find it difficult to grip the ball, just like Mumbai found out last night. Stay tuned...

Kolkata will be disappointed with their batting effort. McCullum and Bisla were the only two bright spots for them while for Auckland, apart from Andre Adams, everyone bowled well. Mahmood finished as the best bet with three wickets.

Terrific comeback by Auckland. Kolkata were going all guns blazing at 72/1 in the 9th over but once Bisla got out, the Kiwi team struck and kept the Knight Riders in check. Azhar Mahmood provided three fatal blows with the wickets of Kallis, Tiwary and McCullum which also included a double-wicket maiden.

19.6 M Bates to R Bhatia, Full and wide outside off, 132 kph, Bhatia misses out and squeezes it straight to short third man. Just a single and Kolkata finish on 137/6! 137/6

19.5 M Bates to Y Pathan, Chips it over mid-wicket for a single. 136/6

19.4 M Bates to Y Pathan, DROPPED! Bad boy, Azhar Mahmood. Complacency to its fullest extent. Short ball again, on middle. Pathan goes for the pull again and gets a massive top edge. Azhar Mahmood settles himself under it at deep mid-wicket, but takes it too easy in the end, and spills it. Two more runs to the total. 135/6

Another change of bat for Yusuf Pathan.

19.3 M Bates to Y Pathan, Almost a good yorker, 132 kph, Pathan is early into his attempted smash through mid-wicket and ends up chipping it just wide of Martin Guptill at short mid-wicket. 133/6

19.2 M Bates to Y Pathan, Lucky! Short ball on middle, climbs higher, Pathan instinctively goes for the pull but gets a top edge. Kyle Mills is a bit late in reacting to that and the ball lands behind him. Two runs taken. 131/6

19.1 M Bates to Y Pathan, Length ball outside off, 131 kph, Pathan heaves across but is beaten by the ball angling across. 129/6

Change of bats for Yusuf Pathan. Meanwhile, Bates is seen wiping the ball with a cloth, so dew is coming into play then...

18.6 A Mahmood to Y Pathan, Full outside off, smashed past the bowler towards Martin Guptill who has been kept pretty straight. Excellent fielding placement, just the single. 129/6

18.5 A Mahmood to R Bhatia, Another slower ball, outside off, 102 kph, Bhatia goes for a big shot initially but then, realizes late that it is a slow ball. Checks his shot in the end and gets it down to long on for one. 128/6

18.4 A Mahmood to Y Pathan, Short outside off, pulled away through mid-wicket for a run. 127/6

Dale Steyn, Rusty Theron and Mark Boucher in the players' zone too! It is so cold and they are wearing shorts!

Now Bhatia calls for a change of shoes... He did not have spikes on the earlier one. Which explains why he slipped. Silly cricket...

Just before the start of play tonight, a couple of old team-mates caught up together. Wasim Akram, Pakistan's legendary fast bowler and now the coach of KKR, walked up to Azhar Mahmood during practice and embraced him. The duo shared a laugh and some other tips too. Good to see.

Bhatia is down in pain... Seems like he got hurt when he slipped while playing a shot on the third ball. Azhar Mahmood gently pats him on the back. The physio is out in the middle now...

18.3 A Mahmood to R Bhatia, Another slower ball, 96 kph, short in length, this time Bhatia is ready for it and pulls it behind square leg for a single. 126/6

18.2 A Mahmood to R Bhatia, Excellent change of pace, 97 kph, Bhatia charges down the track and swings hard but cannot reach the ball and slips. Misses. 125/6

18.1 A Mahmood to R Bhatia, FOUR! Murdered! Wrong line and length, short and outside off, Bhatia swats it over mid-wicket for a boundary! 125/6

Nothing much for Kolkata tonight. Threw away the advantage gained with the bat in the Powerplay and the bowlers never really could get themselves in. Narine saved some grace for Kolkata.

Narine got the wicket of Vincent but Auckland had got the start they wanted. Guptill and Mahmood played well and then Kitchen played a wonderful cameo. Mahmood anchored the chase well and scored his second successive fifty.

Right. Twice in a row now, we have seen the team chasing win comfortably. Lou Vincent set the chase up, smashing the bowlers all around the park and Kolkata were already behind the eight ball.

Right then! Gautam Gambhir and Manvinder Bisla are the openers for Kolkata. Bisla to take strike. Kyle Mills has the new ball in his hand. Two slips in place. All set! Here we go!

The players have shaken hands and we are all set for play to begin. The umpires walk out to the middle, strongly covered in jackets and sweaters. It is a cold. cold evening, so all the best to the players.

Sunil Gavaskar on air is of the opinion that this is a must-win game for Kolkata. A loss here may not see them get into the semis, even if they win their next two games by a comfortable margin. No such pressure for Auckland, just their first game.

Harsha Bhogle wonders with this tweet, "big game for kkr today. auckland aces pretty good side. wonder how the track at capetown will be."

AUCKLAND ACES - Guptill, Vincent, A.Mahmood, Kitchen, Hopkins(c and wk), Munro, de Grandhomme, Hira, Mills, A.Adams and M.Bates.

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS - Bisla(wk), Gambhir(c), B.McCullum, Kallis, M.Tiwary, Y.Pathan, R.Bhatia, Shakib Al Hasan, Sangwan, Narine and Balaji.

TEAM CHANGES - As mentioned by the captains earlier, Auckland are going in with an unchanged side that played the Qualifiers while Kolkata bring in Shakib Al Hasan for Brett Lee.

Gambhir says that they are looking to put runs on the board and have the attack to defend a score. Informs that Jacques Kallis is absolutely fine and is playing today. Hopes to bounce back from the previous defeat. Also adds that Brett Lee misses out today and is replaced by Shakib Al Hasan. Hopkins too was looking to bat first but also says that one cannot depend on the toss. Informs that they won't be making too many changes to the plans made earlier. On the team changes, he cheekily says that his team has got too many strong players in the side to be left out, so the playing eleven stays the same as in the Qualifiers.

TOSS - Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir spins the coin, Auckland captain Gareth Hopkins calls Tails, Heads it is. KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS WILL BAT.

PITCH REPORT - There is a beautiful covering of grass on the playing area. There is a little bit of moisture on top of the wicket. There can be some lateral movement off the seam. Under lights, that movement could get exaggerated. But once the new ball wears off, it could be a great batting surface.

WEATHER REPORT - There is a huge cloud cover over the ground and there are expectations of rain. Hopefully, it stays away.

Auckland play their first game after two successive wins in the Qualifiers and will be pumped up. Kolkata, on the other hand, were beaten soundly by Delhi in their previous game and would love to get back to winning ways. For, from 4 matches, a team would consider itself safe with three victories under their belt. Will Auckland be able to maintain their winning momentum? Or will Kolkata bounce back strongly? Their net run-rate needs a boost as well. Sit back and enjoy as the action unfolds!

Hello and a warm welcome to game 5 of the CLT20 2012 where New Zealand's Auckland Aces take on India's Kolkata Knight Riders at Newlands, Cape Town! This is the first game of the tournament at this venue and we hope that we get a good game, like the ones yesterday.

Aha... interesting comments on air from Tom Moody. He informs that Brendon McCullum follows a bit of s strange superstition. The day he hits 9 holes while playing golf, he does not walk around on the gold park and uses the transport instead. He feels that enables him to play a good innings on the cricket field.
