Commentary (Mumbai Indians innings)

Right! We have the three teams for the Champions League T20. But hang on, this tournament itself has not finished yet. Chennai now take on Delhi in what can be called a virtual semi-final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, 25th May 2012 at 1430 GMT (2000 IST). We hope see you then. Thanks for your company. Until then, on behalf of the commentators and scorers, Adios! Take Care!

MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI HAS ALSO BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH.

Victorious Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni smiles and says that those 3 days before the play-offs were a bit tense, with the team hoping to get through. On his hair, he says that may be he needs to keep his long hair. Credits Michael Hussey for his excellent knock and says that he has been a silent warrior for his side and he, along with Badrinath set a good platform for the middle order. About the helicopter shot, Dhoni says that he has learnt it by playing a lot of tennis ball cricket in his young days at the domestic level. Adds that the bowlers look to bowl yorkers and he looks to get his bottom hand into play. Also says that it is a difficult shot to play as it can cause injuries to one's wrist.

Mumbai captain Harbhajan Singh says that they are disappointed with the result but credits Chennai for playing like champions and adds that Dhoni's knock was the turning point. Also says that Mumbai underachieved in the tournament. On Bravo's innings, Harbhajan says that the first ball he faced, he got an outside edge which went past first slip. Adds that it was that kind of a day when the Dhonis and the Bravos played well.

Maximum sixes award - Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Catch of the match award - Suresh Raina.

The bowling was good in general, with the exception of Ben Hilfenhaus. Morkel and Bravo struck crucial blows and picked up 2 wickets each. Chennai now head back home to meet Delhi in the second Qualifier on Friday, 25th May, 2012.

Not many would have dreamed of this scoreline, especially when Chennai were 2 down for 4 in the third over. But Hussey and Badrinath batted superbly and when they were dismissed, Bravo and Dhoni hit the ball to all parts. They hammered the score to 187 and it looked very competitive. Mumbai started off breezily, scoring 47 runs in the 5th over but then, the sacrificial run out from Tendulkar turned things around. Chennai pounced on the half-open door and Mumbai were never allowed to get back into the game.

A comprehensive win for the defending champions. They managed to sneak in through the back door but have produced one of their best performances of this season to send Mumbai packing, not only out of this tournament, but even out of Champions League T20 which will be held later this year and the top three Indian domestic teams will participate. Also, they have managed to end their losing drought to Mumbai.

Commentary (Chennai Super Kings innings)

The target is certainly a big one and it will need some serious batting from Mumbai to scale it down. The wicket is true for stroke making and Mumbai also have the firepower in their batting. Join us in a while for the run chase...

Phew, what an exhibition of power hitting! 74/1 came in the last five overs and Chennai have posted a mammoth total on the board. It was all Mumbai in the start, with the back to back wickets of Vijay and Raina. But then the duo of Hussey and Badrinath steadied the ship with a wonderful 94-run stand. After that what we witnessed was nothing less than spectacular. MS Dhoni arrived to the scene and amassed a 20-ball 51 and along with Bravo staged an enthralling 73-run partnership off just 29 balls.

19.6 D Kulkarni to MS Dhoni, Too full in length wide outside off, Dhoni throws his bat at it and gets an inside edge. It goes wide of the keeper and MSD rushes back for the second. The throw comes to DK but he fails to find the stumps at the striker's end with his shy. Half-century for Dhoni and Chennai finish on 187/5 in 20 overs! 187/5

19.5 D Kulkarni to D Bravo, Fuller length delivery outside off at 143.4 kph, banged over covers for a single. 185/5

19.4 D Kulkarni to D Bravo, SIX! How did he manage that shot? Bravo reaches out for a wide delivery outside off, loses his balance too but sends it flying over covers. Connection with the bat was exquisite. Spectacular batting! 184/5

19.3 D Kulkarni to D Bravo, SIX! Easy pickings! Length delivery at this stage is a crime. Bravo picks the length early and launches it over long on for a biggie. 178/5

19.3 D Kulkarni to D Bravo, Wide! Bowls it well wide outside off, Bravo leaves it alone. 172/5

19.2 D Kulkarni to MS Dhoni, Full toss outside off, Dhoni turns it to short fine leg for a single. 171/5

19.1 D Kulkarni to MS Dhoni, Full delivery on middle, heaved down the ground for a couple at long on. 170/5

Right then, we're all set to get underway. The players are walking out in the middle. Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay are the openers for Chennai. Harbhajan Singh to start off with the proceedings. "Play" - screams the umpire and here we go...

Chennai - Murali Vijay, Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Albie Morkel, S Badrinath, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shadab Jakati, Ben Hilfenhaus.

Mumbai - Dwayne Smith, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik(w), Ambati Rayudu, James Franklin, Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh(c), Lasith Malinga, Dhawal Kulkarni, RP Singh.

Both skippers are out in the middle for the toss, Harbhajan Singh flips the coin, MSD calls it wrongly and MUMBAI WILL FIELD FIRST! He says that they want to stick to the plan and they are good with the chase. Informs that they are going in with an unchanged XI. Dhoni would have fielded as well but is not too disappointed. He considers that in a pressure game like this, it's in fact an advantage to bat first. For Chennai, Anirudha Srikkanth misses out and Subramaniam Badrinath comes in his place.

Interesting stat about toss - Harbhajan has won 10 and lost 6 tosses while MS Dhoni has just the opposite numbers, won 6 and lost 10 tosses in the 16 matches this season.

If we consider the performance of these two sides in the past five games, both have won three and lost two. Be it Chennai or Mumbai, no doubt they have been inconsistent but today they need to come up with definite strategies and game plans in order to outclass each other. As the name suggests, it is the Eliminator and the side losing will be eliminated from the competition and the winner will face Delhi in the Qualifier 2. Altogether, it promises to be a humdinger. Sit back and enjoy the commentary...

Leaving the luck factor behind, if we look at the points table, Chennai qualified with 17 points and a better run rate than Bangalore. So, it can also be put as to be in the right place at the right time.

Hello and a warm welcome to all our viewers for the eliminator of the Indian T20 League between an extremely lucky Chennai and Mumbai at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The defending champions have been pretty average this season and courtesy a favour from Hyderabad they have advanced into the playoffs. Mumbai, on the other hand, earned it with some important wins in crucial games and would be high on confidence after a thumping 10-wicket win over Jaipur.
