Day 3, first session. Hello and welcome to the coverage of Day 3. The match is hovering in the balance at the moment. Can we see a team steering home the advantage today? Chris Martin to take strike to Dale Steyn.

STUMPS ON DAY 2. A mixed day for both the teams and none of the sides have an edge over each other after two days of good cricket being played along. The Proteas have bounced back late in the day as earlier on, the host team were running along fine. Vernon Philander finishes the day with a four-fer with an outstanding display of swing bowling and was well supported by his team-mates as well. Brendon McCullum gave away his wicket cheaply as did his skipper Ross Taylor. It was then left late to Daniel Vettori and Kruger van Wyk to inject some runs. Join us tomorrow for the day 3 coverage. Till then, farewell.

84.6 D Steyn to Bracewell, OUT! There you go, he's bowled him. Length delivery at 139 kph, on middle, moves away after landing and strikes pot with the stumps. Beautiful delivery, may have caused trouble to many a batsman, reckons Barry Richards on air. 239/9

Local hero Brendon McCullum walks in at number 3, replacing Nicol. New Zealand trail by 224 runs with 9 wickets in hand.

3.2 V Philander to Nicol, OUT! Edged and taken! No need to review this one, that is gone. Full outside off, 136 kph, curling away, Nicol pushes at it and gets a thick outside edge. Smith at first slip has got bucket-like hands and swallows it. Guess the first thing that Philander would have been taught while learning cricket is how to produce the away-going deliveries. Super stuff. Nicol departs for 6, NEW ZEALAND 7/1 IN 3.2 OVERS! 7/1

3.1 Philander to Nicol, Oohhh...Philander is causing ripples in the opposition camp. Fuller length delivery on off, 132 kph, Nicol looks to tuck it away to the leg side coming forward but misses. Gets hit on the knee roll. Philander charges towards the slips in celebration but then realizes that he has to appeal as well. Steyn is pumped up and wants to have it reviewed but the experienced pair of Smith and Boucher decide not to go for it. And experience pays off. Hawk eye shows the ball to be going over the top. Great decision by the umpire and even better decision by the Protea captain not to go for the review. 2/0

0.1 D Steyn to Nicol, That would have been out had it been an ODI. Full on middle, 131 kph, Nicol is early into his flick shot and ends up chipping it over mid-wicket for a couple. 2/0

The wicket is excellent for batting but New Zealand have to be wary of the seam attack that the Proteas possess. Stay tuned as the New Zealand openers will be out soon.

Good bowling display by the Kiwis to restrict the Africans to a small first innings total on a nice batting strip. Credit should go to Chris Martin for scripting a tremendous comeback yesterday and he finished with four wickets. Bracewell and Vettori also impressed with their bowling and kept one end tight. Three half-centurions for the visitors but none of them managed to make it count.

68.2 D Bracewell to Tahir, OUT! Run out! Full length delivery on middle and leg line, Tahir whips it through mid-wicket and completes a couple of runs easily. DRINKS BREAK. Good batting from this pair so far. They have negated an entire hour post Tea and brought the deficit down to 54. Understandably, Vettori has done most of the scoring but the debutant van Wyk has played his part. The partnership has moved on to a crucial 49. 20 overs left in the day.

Imran Tahir is the last batsman.

64.6 D Bracewell to Rudolph, OUT! Rudolph departs! Fuller length delivery angling away from the batsman, at 131.0 kph, Rudolph opts for the square drive but fails to time it well. It flies straight into the hands of Boult at point. A good innings by Rudolph comes to an end and double nelson strikes South Africa, 222/9! 222/9

63.6 C Martin to V Philander, OUT! Probably got carried away, Philander. He pulled the last one for a powerful boundary and this time he gets a short delivery outside the off stump at 132.0 kph. Philander attempts to muscle it square on the off side but fails to keep it down as it flies off the shoulder of the bat. Williamson times his jump to perfection to snap an excellent catch at gully. Martin gets his fourth wicket and a stand worth 35 runs has been broken. 214/8

62.6 Tahir to Wyk, There is an appeal for LBW against van Wyk! South Africa do not take it though. Wrong on, more like a top-spinning one, van Wyk sticks his bat out forward and is rapped flush on the pads. Replays shows it be going over. I thought it be dead plumb though! Good decision in the end. 174/5

62.5 I Tahir to Wyk, Flighted outside off, pushed down back to Imran. 174/5

61.3 C Martin to Philander, Full length delivery on off, Philander gets forward and offers a straight bat in defense. 196/7

61.2 C Martin to Philander, Outside off, an easy leave for the batsman. 196/7

61.1 C Martin to Philander, Flicks it across the line but finds the fielder on the leg side. 196/7

60.6 I Tahir to Vettori, NOT OUT! A leg-spinner from outside off, goes down to strike Vettori who comes forward sticking his bat and pad out simultaneously. It hits his pad first. There is an appeal which is turned down. South Africa take the review. There was no inside edge but Hawk-Eye shows it to be missing leg stump. 173/5

60.5 I Tahir to Vettori, Vettori has offered no stroke to an incoming delivery and it goes down the leg side. 173/5

60.4 I Tahir to Vettori, Looks to work it away, gets the pads to make connection down the leg side and the pair take two. 173/5

Right then, the players are striding out to the middle. Rudolph and Philander are the overnight batsmen. Boult to start off with the proceedings. Here we go...

Pitch - The wicket looks like an absolute belter. Very little for the spinners but the fast bowlers could get some swing early on. Bright sunny day is always considered as good for batting!

It was expected to be an early start today but it will not happen as there are some wet areas on the field and the umpires are keeping a close watch on it. Billy Doctrove informs that the play will get underway at 10.30 am.

Weather - Good news is that the sun is out in its full glory and the University Oval is bathed in bright sunlight. There is some forecast for rain in the afternoon but we'll hope that it stays away today.

Warm welcome to all our viewers for the second day of the first Test match at Dunedin. It was a fantastic comeback by the hosts yesterday to pick seven South African wickets and they would look to bundle out the innings quickly this morning. On the other hand, South Africa would hope that the tail wags with Jacques Rudolph and they add as many runs as possible to the total. Promises to be an intriguing day's play. Sit back and enjoy the commentary...

Day 2, first session...

STUMPS ON DAY 1! The day took a long time to start as rains took the honours for the most part of the time. When play started, the South African innings was started well by Amla and Smith's centuries but along with Graeme Smith's dismissal, begun their untimely down slide. Chris Martin and Doug Bracewell bowled exceedingly well with the former taking two wickets in two balls to add a cherry to the cake. The visiting side are caught in a bit of a tangle with Rudolph and the tail-enders left for him to deal with now. Join us tommorow for day 2 coverage at 1000 local time (0230 IST) as from now everyday will be an early start. Till then, farewell!

0.2 D Steyn to Nicol, Huge shout for LBW, turned down. South Africa do not review. Good length delivery on middle, 134 kph, Rob misses out on his flick shot and gets hit on the pads. Steyn is pumped up and wants to have it reviewed but the experienced pair of Smith and Boucher decide not to go for it. And experience pays off. Hawk eye shows the ball to be going over the top. Great decision by the umpire and even better decision by the Protea captain not to go for the review. 2/0
