Commentary (Pakistan innings)

That's it from us then. The second ODI is on 15th February, Wednesday, 1500 local (1630 IST). Till then, it's tata!

Alastair Cook has been named the Man of the Match. The winning captain praises the bowlers to make it tough for the Pakistani batsmen to score. Agrees that it was a hard tour for them and its great to get to a winning start. He reckons that Test match debacle is completely different and in ODIs it is more of a free game. He sings praises for Finn for his great new ball spell who was also well backed up by Broad and Anderson.

The losing captain, Misbah-ul-Haq reckons that the batting was a bit of a concern and 260 was not that big a total. Adds that batting under the lights are different. Says that it was a good wicket to bat on inspite of the fact that it gets tougher in the second innings. Praises his counter-part, Alastair Cook for his innings and mentions that his contribution set the tone for them. He finishes off adding that they will go through their mistakes, analyze them and come back strongly in the next match.

Pakistan fared well with the bowling but the batting department faltered while the fielding was not even worth mentioning. They have been bowled out in 35 overs, trying to chase 261 but the concern was, that the batsmen never looked comfortable while some of them threw their wickets away. Presentation coming up.

England take a comprehensive 1-0 lead in this four match contest. Both negatives and positives were witnessed. Apart from Cook who scored a wonderful knock of 137, none of them were able to get starts. On the other hand, Steven Finn came up with a super spell with a four-wicket haul, which also consisted two back to back LBWs.

34.6 S Broad to S Ajmal, OUT! ENGLAND WON BY 130 RUNS! Cook takes the catch fittingly with a smug punch of his fists. After a captain's innings of 137, it's only proper for him to lay the final nail on the coffin. Ajmal looks to get under this full delivery, it takes a healthy edge and carries over mid off, Cook covering the ball from mid on does well to judge it with a call as even the mid off fielder was nearby. Pakistan have been bowled out cheaply. A different story has been scripted here, contradictory to what we had witnessed in the Test series. 130/10

Lands a full delivery pitching on off stump at 142.2 kph, it seamed back into Shafiq and wraps him on the pads squarely. Pakistan are in a spot of bother with two wickets down in 2.2 overs. 11/2

Commentary (England innings)

Saeed Ajmal got his maiden five-wicket haul and the golden boy of Pakistan, Afridi showed his class when he castled Pietersen first bamboozled Trott the next ball with a googly in his first over. It might be more than interesting to witness this run chase. Join us in a while for second innings.

Considering the magnitude at which they were out-classed in the Test series, England have done reasonably well to mount up 260 runs off 50 overs. The skipper raised his hand to answer all the critics with a brilliant hundred under the hammer on a tricky pitch, where the other England batsman could not get any starts.

49.6 W Riaz to G Swann, Short of a length delivery, Swann goes to heave and misses. Akmal attempts a throw at the striker's end but could not hit the stumps. Dot ball. ENGLAND FINISH AT 260/7. 260/7

48.5 U Gul to S Patel, Gets hold of this full delivery and rams it down the ground for a couple of runs. 249/7

All of Ajmal's wickets have come in a different fashion. Bopara was stumped, Morgan was LBW, Kieswetter was caught, Cook was bowled and Broad was caught and bowled!

48.4 U Gul to S Patel, FOUR! Unorthodox, but in the end every run counts! Fullish outside off at a slow pace, Patel gets it below his bat and scoops it down the ground all the way at one bounce to the fence. 247/7

46.1 S Ajmal to A Cook, Short delivery, keeps low to Cook who sweeps it through mid-wicket for two. 230/5

Pakistan have pulled things back superbly. At one stage, it seemed as if England could reach 300. Cook's knock reminds me of Aussie skipper Michael Clarke's unbeaten 87 against England at Southampton in 2010. Australia ended up scoring 267 when they could have crossed 300.

39.3 S Ajmal to E Morgan, OUT! True call here from Simon Taufel. Doosra, landing outside off, Morgan unveils the risky reverse sweep to this magician and misses out. It squares him up on the thigh pad. The players go for the appeal and it's given. Morgan goes up for the review but everything goes against him and England lose their fourth. 196/4

LBW! OUT! Morgan given out but hold on, he refers!

35.1 S Ajmal to A Cook, FOUR! What a knock from the skipper, under pressure for the team's performance and he scripts a well deserved hundred. Short and wide outside off, cut away through covers for a thumping boundary. 173/2

34.5 S Broad to S Ajmal, Short outside off, Ajmal goes for the pull and gets it to mid-wicket for two runs. 130/9

34.4 S Broad to W Riaz, Short of a length at 133.7 kph, Riaz gets up on his toes to work it on the leg side and takes a single 128/9

34.3 S Broad to W Riaz, Hurls in a bouncer, Riaz does well to evade it. 127/9

34.2 S Broad to W Riaz, FOUR! Audacious shot from Riaz. Well struck through, irrespective of the unorthodox part of it. Short of a length outside off, Broad does well to slam it over mid on for a boundary. 127/9

34.1 S Broad to W Riaz, Goes well wide outside off, angled straight to gully. 123/9

Ajmal back on. Crucial times ahead.

Batting Powerplay enforced.

The players have made their way out to the middle. Cook and Pietersen are the two batsmen at the crease. Umar Gul will start the proceedings for Pakistan.

England Team Alastair Cook(c), Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Ravi Bopara, Eoin Morgan, Craig Kieswetter(w), Samit Patel, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Graeme Swann, Steven Finn.

Pakistan Team Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Asad Shafiq, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq(c), Umar Akmal(w), Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Wahab Riaz.

Toss - England have won the toss and elected to bat. Tim Bresnan is not fully fit yet and he misses out. Skipper Alastair Cook will open the batting with Kevin Pietersen. The Pakistan side that played Afghanistan remains unchanged.

After suffering a humiliating 3-0 whitewash at the hands of the Asian team in the Test series, England would be looking to hit back hard in the limited overs edition of the game. On the other hand, Pakistan would be looking to continue their momentum of 7 consecutive wins in ODIs and draw the first blood in the four match series. Pitch - Pitch is dry and looks to be a good batting track.

Hello and welcome to the coverage of the first ODI between Pakistan and England in Abu Dhabi.
