Commentary (Pune Warriors India innings)

Right then, that's all we have for this match. It was a nerve-wrecking one and Steven Smith impressed one and all with his calm approach under immense pressure and surely is someone to watch out for in this tournament! Tomorrow is a Super Sunday with a couple of matches scheduled to be played. Do join us at 1600 IST to catch all the action. Cheers!!!

JESSE RYDER HAS BEEN NAMED MAN OF THE MATCH. On his verbal spat with Samuels, Jesse says that his idea was to bat through the innings while Samuels wanted him to go after the bowling. The way Steven Smith played, took a lot of pressure off him and made his job easier, he says. Feels that the home crowd is amazing and hopes that they come out again in support. On the brisk start, Ryder says that his team needed to get off to a flier and the good wicket helped.

Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni says that his team were not great with the ball in the last few overs. On giving Mahesh the ball in the last over, he says that he was impressed with the youngster in the nets, so why not give him a try. Shrugs it off by saying that it did not work. Adds that Chennai need someone who can bowl well in the death overs. Even the first 5-6 overs have been a weak link, not now but for the last 5 years and they are improving, albeit slowly.

Pune skipper Sourav Ganguly says that it was a great cricketing pitch, it is a new stadium and it was fantastic. He adds that when you play against Chennai, and win, it feels great as they are a strong team. At one stage, it looked as if 170 was on the cards but praises Ashish Nehra and Ashok Dinda for doing well. Feels that his team lost its way in overs 6-8 when Ashwin and Raina were bowling and could have got more. On Smith, Ganguly says that the former has improved immensely from what he saw last time. Adds that it is not easy to come from Australia and straightway start performing on Indian pitches.

1.MAXIMUM SIXES AWARD - STEVEN SMITH. 2.BEST CATCH OF THE MATCH AWARD - STEVEN SMITH again!

Pune were off to a superb start in their run chase with Jesse Ryder finally coming in some form. He stroked a valiant unbeaten 73 and held one end strong. His 66-run stand with Smith proved vital as it earned Pune an impressive win. It was a close battle to be honest but Smith with his sheer class and patience under pressure mesmerized the crowd with his stroke play.

Smiles all around in the Pune camp and the crowd is making lots of noise. Steven Smith stole the show here and surely is the new blue-eyed boy of Pune. He has played a scintillating knock of 44 off 22 balls, which was punctuated with 4 fours and three mighty hits out of the ground. Pune have kept the clean sheet at home and have won their second game at the new venue. Courtesy this win, they move to the top of the table.

19.2 Yo Mahesh to S Smith, SIX! Steven Smith, you beauty! What a player he is, doesn't feel the pressure at all. Take a bow! An over-pitched delivery outside off, Smith latches onto it and muscles it over covers. Jadeja in the deep was in pursuit to take the catch but misses and the ball falls beyond the ropes. PUNE WIN BY 7 WICKETS! 156/3

19.1 Yo Mahesh to S Smith, FOUR! Poor delivery with fine leg up in the circle. He delivers a full toss on the pads and Smith just guides it past the short fine leg fielder for a boundary. 6 to win off 5! 150/3

The wicket is good for shot making and if Pune bats sensibly they can overhaul the target. Start will be crucial for both sides and Chennai's slower bowlers will be the key. Join us in a while for the chase!!

"A superb effort at containing CSK by Pune. They've done really well! When Faf DuPlessis and Raina were going, 180 looked on the cards.Sharma, Dinda,Samuels and Nehra at the end were good. And the fielding" tweets Mpumelelo Mbangwa.

41/2 in the last five overs and Pune have bounced back well in the later stage of the innings to restrict Chennai to a gettable total. Faf du Plessis set the tone of the innings with a few lusty hits and Jadeja carried the good work in the middle overs along with MS Dhoni. But the defending champions will be disappointed with their performance towards the end. They would feel that they are 20-30 runs short. Rahul Sharma was superb tonight with an economical spell and also picked up a couple of scalps.

Dwayne Bravo is the new batsman.

19.2 A Nehra to R Jadeja, OUT! Good catch in the deep by baby-faced Steven Smith. Full delivery on middle, in the arc for the batsman and Jadeja swings his blade across the line. He miscues it completely and the ball flies straight down the ground. Smith at long on settles underneath it, indicates to Manhas coming in from long off to stop and takes the catch calmly. That's the way to take a skier! 148/5

19.1 A Nehra to A Morkel, On the pads, helped to mid-wicket for one. 148/4

Time to get underway! The players have made their way out to the middle. Under pressure Murali Vijay and in-form Faf du Plessis (needs 46 to complete 1000 T20 runs) are the Chennai openers. Pune to start the proceedings with a spinner. Murali Kartik to bowl. All set! Let's play says the umpire...

Pune's captain, Sourav Ganguly flips the coin, MS Dhoni calls it "Tails" and it is "Tails". Surprise! Surprise! Dhoni has won the toss and "Chennai will bat". He says that they want to set the target as he is not sure how the wicket will behave. Ganguly would have also batted. He informs that they have roped in Murali Kartik in place of a batsman.

Time for the spin of the coin...

A jam-packed stadium welcomes both skippers in the middle. Ganguly says that it's a new pitch and it will settle down as the game progresses. Adds that the atmosphere is great! MS Dhoni says that Albie won them the last match and it was a very good win for the side. Adds that he tries to watch every game and it gives the chance to see how the other teams are playing and how the pitches are behaving. Feels that this wicket will not change much.

Aakash Chopra tweets, "Expecting Tamim Iqbal to replace Ryder and Kartik to come in for Pandey. Not expecting any changes for Chennai. Let's see if I get it right."

Both captains have a talented bunch of players at their disposal and it promises to be an exciting contest. Chennai, specially, after a nerve-wrecking win against Bangalore, where they overhauled a massive target, will be gung-ho and would look to gain their second straight win for the first time this year.

It will be the clash between two of the best captains India have ever produced! Sourav Ganguly, the past and MS Dhoni the present of the Indian cricket will go one on one against each other and we can expect some shrewd and smart captaincy in this match.

Greetings to all our viewers and thank you for tuning in to the only Indian T20 League match of the Saturday evening between the hosts, Pune and the defending champions, Chennai at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium.

Jadeja, who has one of the best arms in the game, throws with a fierce speed and Ashwin calmly removed the bails. Ganguly with a strange dive is well short and OUT flashes on the giant screen. What was good about the run out for the fielding side was the end where Jadeja chose to throw! Six times Ganguly has been involved in a run out in this league and only the second time he has been dismissed. Chennai 65/2 and need 91 more for a win off 70 balls. 65/2

Strategic time-out! Chennai have raced away to a fine start with once again Faf du Plessis looking in superb touch. The pitch is brilliant for shot making and the visitors would definitely want to put a big total on the wicket. Pune's job will be to restrict them to as low total as possible. But for that to happen they need to pick wickets!
