Commentary (South Africa innings)

That's it from all of us. Both teams face contrasting touring nations now. While South Africa will play host to Pakistan, New Zealand invite England to their backyard. Do join us for that, till then, farewell!

The Black Caps now hold with the winner's trophy. They truly deserve this one as everyone looks quite pleased out there. The champagne is popped by Grant Elliott and the team-mates come on to congratulate Brendon McCullum.

Brendon McCullum praises his team for bouncing back after a tough Test series. Says that they got a few new faces for the ODIs and he is proud of his boy's efforts. Adds that they learned their lessons quickly and stood up against one of the best sides. Praises Kane Williamson for having a good series. Regarding the next assignment, he admits that it will be a tough challenge against England. Thanks the South African team and the crowd for their hospitality and wishes the Proteas all the best for their series against Pakistan.

Graeme Smith gets the Man of the Match award! Says that it was a good experience to them. Adds that not being the captain, he really felt good and enjoyed the part of mentoring the new guys. Praises Nathan McCullum for bowling well and adds that he would have loved to see his side home but is happy that McLaren batted through. Thanks the crowd for trooping in good numbers and adds that it was nice to get a win. Congratulates Brendon McCullum for winning the series. Admits that it is going to be a tough series against Pakistan.

Faf du Plessis says that it was nerve-wracking match and it was nice to see young lads coming in and contributing. Adds that the winning shot by McLaren was very special. Admits that they need to work hard before the series against Pakistan and says that they will learn from this. Also says that it was a great learning opportunity for them. Applauds New Zealand for playing well and admits that they played better than them in the series.

In the end, 8 runs were required off the last 6 deliveries and McLaren sealed it with a maximum when 3 were required off the last ball. This brings to an end to one of the contrastingly interesting series ever.

Graeme Smith led a one-man chase. South Africa were off to a good start with de Kock doing well too. From being 2/165 and with the run-rate just hovering around 6 an over. The home side kept on losing wickets at junctures, where partnerships were just building and the pressure fell on Graeme Smith, who had to throw it away towards the end.

After winning the toss, NZ chose to bat. Did not get the ideal start they wanted but still did well as Colin Munro and the veteran Grant Elliott build up a strong partnership. James Franklin came handy down in the order with a 50 as well. McLaren and the ODI specialist Lonwabo Tsotsobe shared 4 each.

Just like Sri Lanka, New Zealand too have come up with a strong ODI performance here. Even though Sri Lanka are a consistently improving side, the Kiwis do look a solid unit. And with the addition of the likes of Ross Taylor, Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Jesse Ryder, they will be a force to battle with.

A long time wait for a last-ball finish and it's been one heck of a finish. Not so often that bravery triumphs over in pressure situations but McLaren has pulled it off here. South Africa looked totally in the game around the 35th over but with 3 required off the last ball, Franklin could not win it for his team.

49.6 J Franklin to R McLaren, SIX! What a gutsy shot, what a match and what a thrilling end to this victory! SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 1 wicket! Probably too much of team-mate ship to be blamed here as McLaren anticipates this length delivery from Franklin, sits down confidently and just scoops it over short fine leg. Attempted what Misbah-ul-Haq tried to do years back against India, but executed it much better. Handshakes all over and McLaren clutches onto his chest, his national badge. 264/9

Lonwabo Tsotsobe is the last man in. South Africa need 3 more for a win, while New Zealand need to give anything less than 2 for a 3-0 whitewash. McLaren to face the last delivery. 3 runs required. The batsmen have a chat in the middle.

49.5 J Franklin to D Steyn, OUT! Caught in the deep! Phenomenal scenes now and the Kiwis hold the edge! Franklin angles a good length delivery down the leg side, Steyn heaves it over mid-wicket but does not connect. Elliott comes around from deep mid-wicket and takes a pressure catch. 258/9

49.4 J Franklin to D Steyn, Slow and wide outside off, Steyn slices it towards point and Williamson fumbles a bit on the dive. They take two and need 3 off 2 now. 258/8

49.3 J Franklin to D Steyn, Franklin bowls a high full toss, wide outside off, Steyn has a mighty swing and misses. Franklin is lucky here. 5 off 3 now. 256/8

49.2 J Franklin to R McLaren, A full ball down the leg side, McLaren thumps it over mid-wicket. Guptill in the deep does well to hold on and throw it quickly to McCullum. Just one. 256/8

49.1 J Franklin to R McLaren, Superb running! A good length delivery, McLaren comes down the track and smashes it to long on. Steyn calls for it and McLaren makes for it at the other end with a dive. 6 off 5 balls now. 255/8

So James Franklin has been brought to bowl the final over, of the final match of the series. 8 required now off 6 balls. Can Franklin, whose variations are quite handy in these conditions, pull it off?

48.6 M McClenaghan to D Steyn, Not out! Comes around the wicket and bowls good length on middle, Steyn looks to flick but gets hit on the knee roll. Amidst the huge appeal, the batsmen don't see that the bowler is only interested in the LBW and fail to take the leg bye and then the Kiwis gather to take the review. Replays show it was going OVER the stumps. 253/8

Review for a LBW shout against Steyn! Does not look out!

48.5 M McClenaghan to D Steyn, Over-pitched outside off, Steyn lofts it over covers and takes a couple of runs. 253/8

48.3 M McClenaghan to A Phangiso, OUT! Edged and a fantastic catch behind from the skipper! A good length delivery around off, Phangiso was looking to slog it away over mid-wicket, gets an inside edge and McCullum had to move the other way, to pluck it low towards his left and takes it. Excellent reflexes. 251/8

Aaron Phangiso walks in on his ODI debut.

46.5 M McClenaghan to R Kleinveldt, OUT! Cleaned him up! Kleinveldt plays a rash hit and pays the price. A good length delivery angling in, Rory was aiming to go over long on but the ball sneaked through to hit the off stump. 237/7

46.4 M McClenaghan to R Kleinveldt, FOUR! That's the risk of bowling short! He does it again without any pace outside off, Kleinveldt pulls it away off the top edge over short fine leg. 237/6

45.4 K Williamson to G Smith, OUT! Graeme Smith is gone now and an excellent innings has to come to an end, on a rather poor note. Williamson bowls it down the leg side, Smith chips down the track to loft but almost finds a sort of leading edge. Watling at long on settles under it. Smith did not even raise his bat to the crowd which probably just shows that winning the match is more important than a milestone. Well done, Biff! 229/6

40.3 K Williamson to G Smith, That spun a long way and beat the leg stump by a whisker. Williamson lets it rip from outside leg, Smith makes room to slog it away, missed it and McCullum also missed a chance of a stumping. Couldn't blame him though as the ball kept low. 193/4

Commentary (New Zealand innings)

The Proteas started well with the ball but failed to maintain the pressure throughout. They let the partnerships blossom and looked clueless once the Kiwi batsmen pressed on the accelerator. The bowling was also not disciplined as they conceded as many as 17 wides which also hurt the over-rate badly. In the last 10 overs, the Black Caps amassed 85 runs and now have a decent total to fight with. Do join us in a while for the run chase which promises to be an intriguing one...

Fine recovery by New Zealand to post a competitive total on the board. They were struggling big time with four wickets down for 68 but then Elliott and Munro resurrected the innings with a superb partnership, while Munro was involved in an excellent stand with Franklin as well. With four wickets apiece, Tsotsobe and McLaren were the best bowlers on show.

It's a big day for the Kiwis, after having a torrid time of late, they would be looking to go all out in pursuit of a clean sweep which would shoot up their confidence level immensely. Another cracker awaits us!

This is a golden chance for them to attain a clean sweep over the mighty Proteas. The South Africans, on the other hand, have shown inconsistent form in the ODIs, they need to step up a gear and deliver the goods in order to attain some pride.
