Commentary (West Indies innings)

That's it from here then. We have had our share of the fun. The next ODI is on 23rd March, 2012, Friday, and it starts at 0930(local time), 1900 IST. Till then, farewell!

Darren Sammy feels that they could have won today. He feels that they batted down to number 11 and says that he and Roach had decided to run for everything. Feels that it was a fantastic game and it's disappointing to lose. He feels that they had them cornered and bowled well. He says that there is a belief in the team and that they look forward to win the next game. He cannot decide between a batting-friendly or a bowling-friendly pitch for the next game (4th ODI) pitch and laughs it away with good humor by saying he does not mind either of them.

MAN OF THE MATCH, Mike Hussey says that it's a bit tough in the middle overs, the ball spins more, it's enjoyable but it's tough he says. He feels that it is difficult for the new batsmen to come in and make runs immediately. Admits that that his team backed themselves to win the game, but at the end, even a tie seemed like a win to them.

Shane Watson says it's a great game of cricket and thanks the crowd for turning out to watch a great game of match. Admits that the batting let them down. Praises Doherty by expressing that he has bowled well throughout the summer. Says that the biggest lesson in this match was adapting to the situation and it's a learning experience for him as a captain.

The chase was anchored well by Pollard and Baugh as the top-order could not adhere much to the situation and threw their wickets away. It was then left late in the office for Russell to come in, who for one, struck a magnificent 116-metre blow. When Sammy and Roach were at the crease, they needed 1 run off 3 balls but threw it away with a silly run out. Nevertheless, a good display of spirit as they punched each other's gloves in spite of knowing that they could have won easily. In today's day of venting out frustration on your opponents or your partners for that sake, it's nice to see that.

Another humdinger, just like the ones we witnessed in the tri-series, Down Under earlier on. West Indies exceeded expectations when they bowled Australia out for 220 with some good bowling and especially with Sunil Narine proving the difference.

49.4 B Lee to D Sammy, OUT! THAT'S A TIE! Can you believe it? There were two deliveries and one must say, West Indies have lost it in the end part of the match. 16.1 N Lyon to D Bravo, SIX! That's as strange as you can get, but a maximum to it proves the pure power of a Caribbean. Australia take the review and Eagle Eye shows it be missing leg stump which means that it was an arm ball. Strange, Doherty must have known it was an arm ball, why would he even take the review? Or is it one more of a faulty Hawk Eye decision. 39/1

LBW referral against Samuels. Not out given. Australia take the review.

Marlon Samuels walks in to bat at number 3 now.

Commentary (Australia innings)

Sammy plays it straight to the man at point. Roach was half-way down the track and Sammy did not move an inch. Lee flicks the bails at the non-striker's end off from the throw from point and the Australians are jubilant. 220/10

49.3 B Lee to D Sammy, FOUR! Did that seal Australia's door? Full outside off, Sammy swings and makes meaty connection to get it past long on. ONE required off 3 balls. 220/9

49.2 B Lee to K Roach, Short of a length outside off, patted down to third man for one. 5 runs off 4 balls now. Sammy to face strike. 216/9

49.1 B Lee to D Sammy, Fuller outside off, swung away to mid on for one, who has a shy at the non-striker's end and misses out. 6 runs off 5 balls now. 215/9

West Indies bounced back to break the partnership and the late order onslaught never came from the Aussies. Still, the target will take some serious batting effort from the Windies. Nathan Lyon and Xavier Doherty will hold the key in the middle overs but West Indies also have to survive the initial burst from Brett Lee and company. Join us in a while for the chase...

Fantastic bowling performance by the hosts but Australia also recovered well after three early wickets to post a challenging total on the board. Sunil Narine impressed once again with his variations and leaving Michael Hussey apart, the rest of the batters struggled to pick him. The hundred partnership between Mr. Cricket and George Bailey saved blemish for the tourists as they succeeded in the middle overs.

49.5 S Narine to D Christian, OUT! The decision stays! A carrom ball bowled in the yorker length area, Christian tried to flick it to the leg side but missed and was hit on the boot. The finger goes up after the LBW appeal and Dan referred it. Replays show that it pitched on middle and was hitting leg. Australia all out for 220 in 49.5 overs! 220/10

LBW appeal referred upstairs. On-field decision is OUT!

49.4 S Narine to D Christian, Gets down on one knee for a sweep but misses. It misses the off stump by a whisker. 220/9

49.3 S Narine to D Christian, SIX! Massive! Uses his feet to dance down the track, fails to reach to the pitch of the delivery but still goes on with his massive slog. He connects well and sends it whistling over the long on fence. 220/9

49.2 S Narine to D Christian, Quicker delivery on off, at 110.1 kph, Dan gets down the track and hits it back to the bowler. 214/9

49.1 S Narine to D Christian, Carrom ball on middle, heaved over mid-wicket for a couple. Pollard used his boot to make the stop at wide long on. 214/9

Right-O, the players have made their way out to the middle. Shane Watson and David Warner are the Aussie openers. Kemar Roach to steam in with the new ball.

West Indies - Kieran Powell, Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Carlton Baugh(w), Andre Russell, Darren Sammy(c), Sunil Narine, Kemar Roach.

Australia - Shane Watson, David Warner, George Bailey, Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Daniel Christian, Matthew Wade, Brett Lee, Clint McKay, Nathan Lyon, Xavier Doherty.

Toss - The news breaking out from the middle is that "Australia have won the coin toss and they will bat!" Shane Watson says that the wicket looks a bit dry than last time around. Confirms that Nathan Lyon is playing in place of Peter Forrest. Adds that it is nice to have two spinners in the side with the wicket on the slower side. Darren Sammy says that they will take it as a final from here on and would look to improve. Adds that it is a low scoring ground and they would look to restrict Australia to even lower score than the last time. Also adds that, they need to emphasize more on partnerships. West Indies are unchanged from last game.

Pitch - Dominated by the bowlers it has been a tough going for the batters in the series. Same pitch that was used in the last match is being today as well. There is a fair covering of grass but there are a few bare patches as well. Expect some variable bounce! It will be slower than Sunday and shot making will not be easy.

Australia have already announced their playing XI. Strangely, they have dropped a batsman in Peter Forrest to accommodate an off-spinner Nathan Lyon. The decision is strange as batting has been a worry for the tourists. We will get the confirmation about the West Indies' side at the toss.

Weather report - It is overcast out there and the temperature is hovering around 28 degrees Celsius. However, there are predictions for some late thundershowers.

Courtesy a win in the last match, Ralph Everard Gonsalves, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has declared today as a national holiday. It's a sold out for this game and we're expecting a carnival-kind-of-an-atmosphere!! Let's hope the match lives up to the expectations...

Riding high on the success which came after a gap of long six years, West Indies will be eyeing the lead in the 5-match series, when both sides collide in the third ODI at Kingstown. Warm welcome to all our viewers and thank you for tuning in to the coverage. Sit back and enjoy the commentary...

One over left now. Lee to steam in. 7 required off an over. Darren Sammy to face strike. He has not unleashed any of his cannons today. Will he now? Here we go!

48.6 X Doherty to K Roach, Keeps it towards point. 214/9

48.3 X Doherty to K Roach, Roach plays a sweep shot. One run added to the total. 213/9

48.2 X Doherty to K Roach, Wide outside off. Short and turning away. Roach goes after it and misses. 212/9

48.1 X Doherty to K Roach, FOUR! Down the leg side, Sammy sweeps, it runs away to the fine leg fence. McKay lands in a spirited chase but touches the ropes while pulling it back. 212/9

48.5 K Roach to N Lyon, Feels for a delivery outside his off stump and misses. 212/9

48.4 K Roach to N Lyon, Gets behind the line of the delivery and blocks. 212/9

48.3 K Roach to N Lyon, Defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 212/9

48.2 K Roach to N Lyon, FOUR! One the pads, deflected to the fine leg fence with easy by Lyon. 212/9

Nathan Lyon is the last batsman.

48.1 K Roach to D Christian, OUT! Brilliant footwork from Darren Bravo. Excellent yorker on middle, Christian squeezes it out and gets an inside edge onto the pads. It ricochets in front of point, Dan calls his partner for a single but Bravo rushes to the ball and uses his boot to flick it back onto the stumps. Doherty is well short and Australia are nine down! 208/9

Doherty in now. Might be the make it or break it over?

47.6 B Lee to K Roach, Over-pitched outside off, Roach steers it cleanly through covers for one. 13 runs needed off 12 balls now. 208/9

47.5 B Lee to K Roach, Fuller length outside off at 143.9 kph, Roach drives nicely and gets it past point to take two runs. 14 now, off 13 balls. 207/9

47.3 B Lee to K Roach, Roach has played that off the front foot and into the ground. 204/9

47.6 S Narine to X Doherty, Another off spinner on middle, Doherty plays down the wrong line and misses. 208/8

47.5 S Narine to X Doherty, Off-spinner turning away from the batsman, Doherty pokes inside the line and misses. 208/8

Xavier Doherty walks out to the middle.

47.4 S Narine to C McKay, OUT! That was always on the cards. The top order was not picking Narine and it's little too much to expect a number nine batsman to pick him.
