Mumbai: Complimenting Man of the Match Gautam Gambhir for his fine knock, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni credited the win to his batsmen’s fine showing in the seven-wicket win of the Future Cup Twenty20 International over Australia at the Brabourne Stadium here on Saturday.
"Gautam’s heroic knock, after a long injury lay-off and Yuvraj Singh’s big hitting along with Robin Uthappa’s matured innings did the trick for us and our batsmen really rose to the occasion as we needed this win very badly. I hope Gautam will continue in the same way against the Pakistanis as well," Dhoni said at the post-match press conference. Continue reading below
"Being the world champions, we had a point to prove (probably referring to Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting’s remark that India’s Twenty20 World Championship win was history before the start of the seven- match ODI series) and I think we did it style," he added with wry smile on his face.
"In fact we wanted to go in the middle and just enjoy the atmosphere over there, which was terrific. Our running between the wickets and particularly our organised batting proved the crucial factor for our win," Dhoni pointed out.
"I sincerely hope our players continue to play the way they played today as we have a very important series coming up against Pakistan," Dhoni said after receiving the Future Cup.
