Mumbai India justified its tag of being the World Champions beating Australia in the Twenty20 international in Mumbai on Saturday night. CNN-IBN's Roma Khanna caught up with one of the architects of that victory Yuvraj Singh for an exclusive interview.
Yuvraj Singh: It is always great to end on a high. It gives you a lot of confidence and it is a good time for a break now. Continue reading below
Roma Khanna: You think that winning the last ODI where the way Zaheer Khan, Murali Kartik and the other bowlers performed, and does those last two victories give you confidence, when you would be touring Australia?
Yuvraj Singh: Ya, it was a great team effort, especially Zaheer and Kartik's partnership in the end (in the seventh and the final ODI in Mumbai). Robin really played well early on when we lost couple of wickets, so it gives you a lot of confidence as it was a team effort and specially when you are going to Australia and will be playing Pakistan. So, we are very happy with our efforts.
Roma Khanna: Is it being the world champions that gives you the confidence? As Dhoni said that international cricket is all about confidence, more than skills.
Yuvraj Singh: Ya, of course. Dhoni says when you are the World Champions, then 'tension dene ka, lene ka nahin.' So, that is what we try and do. And when you are confident, it goes a little high. I think we played a good game.
Roma Khanna: Team picked up momentum as it progressed, probably through the fourth, fifth, sixth matches and we started doing really better?
Yuvraj Singh: To be honest, Australia outlasted us in all the departments of the game. If you see the cricket they played and we played, the matches that we had won were very close games but the matches that they won, we lost those games in 30-35 overs.
So, they played better cricket than us on this tour and we ended the tour on a high. So, as a team we need to take positives out of the game.
