Ahmedabad: The Sri Lankan cricket team and some members of the India team arrived here on Saturday for the first Test starting November 16 at the Sardar Patel stadium here.
The visiting team was led by wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara while Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni arrived with Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir at Sardar Patel airport. Continue reading below
Dhoni and his boys practised under the watchful eyes of coach Gary Kirsten. The players came at the Sardar Patel stadium in the afternoon and started the session with stretching excercises.
The team then split into two groups and played football for nearly 30 minutes, followed by net practice.
Skipper Dhoni along with Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and others attended the session.
Tendulkar, who would complete 20 years of his international cricketing career, would be presented a memento by Gujarat Chief Minister and GCA president Narendra Modi before the match, they said.
