Mohali: The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) was awarded for the 'Best Pitch and Outfield' during the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

PCA had won this award first time alongwith Chennai. "The PCA pitch and outfield has come in for lot of praise from all the visiting teams during their matches played at this venue," an association spokesman said.
The ground and the wicket, which was laid in early 1993, hosted the first ODI against South Africa on November 22, 1993, when the stadium structure was still in the process of completion.
Daljit Singh, who has been the in-charge for the upkeep of this ground from the beginning, has put in a lot of scientific input for its maintenance that has resulted in it being rated as one of the fastest and bouncy tracks of the country, he said.
Daljit has had added experience of being the head of BCCI's Pitches and Grounds Committee for over a decade.
PCA has so far hosted 11 international ODIs and 10 Test matches, the last Test being against Australia on October 1, 2010.
This year the PCA has added to its tally of international matches by holding three World Cup matches, including the famous semifinal against Pakistan in March 2011.
