- Andrew Strauss, after scoring hundreds in both innings of Chennai Test, was dismissed for a duck! He became only the second English batsman to suffer this ignominy of getting a duck soon after scoring two centuries in a Test after Marcus Trescothick, who got a second ball duck against West Indies at Manchester in 2004 after scoring 105 & 107 against the same side in the previous match at Birmingham.

- Kevin Pietersen (144) scored 15th hundred of his Test career – his third against India and first on Indian soil. Continue reading below

- The above hundred was also his second in three Tests as captain after 100 (on captaincy debut) against South Africa at the Oval in August this year.

- Pietersen’s 144 is now his highest against India, surpassing 134 at Lord’s in 2007.

- Pietersen’s innings is also the highest by an English captain against India in India. This surpasses Ted Dexter’s unbeaten 126 at Kanpur in 1961-62.

- Incidentally Pietersen is the fourth English captain to score a Test hundred on India soil after Ted Dexter, Tony Lewis (125 at Kanpur in 1972-73) and Tony Greig (103 at Calcutta in 1976-77).

- Pietersen's innings is also the highest by a captain at Mohali. This obliterates Sachin Tendulkar's unbeaten 126 against New Zealand in 1999-00.

- Pietersen, on 105, completed his 4,000 runs in Test cricket. He became England’s 28th and 101st batsman overall to accomplish this feat.By taking 45 Tests, Pietersen became the joint sixth fastest in Test cricket to reach 4000-run mark. Only Don Bradman (31), Everton Weekes (42), Herbert Sutcliffe (43),Sunil Gavaskar (43) and Len Hutton (44) have reached this milestone in fewer Tests, while Brian Lara and Jack Hobbs also took 45 Tests.

- Pietersen, on 129, completed his 1,000 runs in Test matches in the year 2008. He became first Englishman and ninth batsman to aggregate 1,000 runs in this calendar year.

- Pietersen has now aggregated 1,000 runs in three consecutive years – 1343 in 2006, 1007 in 2007… and 1015 in 2008. This makes him only the fourth batsman in Test cricket history to aggregate 1,000 runs in three consecutive years. Australia's Matthew Hayden remains the only batsman to aggregate 1,000 runs in FIVE consecutive years, while West Indian Brian Lara and England's Marcus Trescothick are the others to do so thrice.

- The fifth wicket partnership of 149 runs between Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff is the highest for fifth wicket by any side at this ground. This expunges the 142-run stand between Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly for India against Australia in October this year.
