'Yuvraj will be back in action in 10 weeks'

Story

New Delhi: Cricketer Yuvraj Singh is suffering from cancer, but it is not lung cancer, doctors at Max Hospital, Saket (New Delhi) said. The malignant tumour is between Yuvraj’s lungs and not inside his lungs as reported earlier, said Dr Nitish Rohatgi of Max Saket while addressing a press conference on Monday.

Claiming that the tumour was curable, the doctor said that Yuvraj is undergoing treatment in the USA for the tumour, which is mostly curable with therapy. He said that the treatment and chemotherapy at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston is unlikely to cause any damage to Yuvraj's career and the entire procedure has been planned so that Yuvraj can start his training in 10 weeks time. The doctor hoped that he would be back on the field by the first week of May. Yuvraj's treatment has been planned to maintain his privacy and focus on his treatment and recovery.

Dr Rohatgi said that the cricketer has shown tremendous courage during the treatment. Yuvraj is not as fit as he was last year but with his strong mind and proper training he should be fit in some time, he said.

Announcing that he was responding well, the doctor said that he would undergo the treatment for nine weeks and added that he was not suffering from a typically hereditary cancer.
