Assam pull off shock win over Vidarbha

Nagpur: Assam pulled off a stunning 71-run win over Vidarbha in their Ranji Trophy Plate Division group B match to collect five points here on Tuesday.
The hosts, requiring 169 to win in possible 54 overs on the final day, were bundled out for a paltry 97 runs in their second innings at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground.
Vidarbha openers made a confident start as they began the chase at a brisk pace but once Madhusudhan Acharya got out Assam bowlers did not let the hosts ship settle.
Fiaz Fazal (32) who was the top scorer for the hosts fell to a reckless drive off medium pacer K Das.
Gaurav Upadhaya (16) and Shalabh Srivastav (12) resisted briefly but both fell to some inexplicable shots.
Spinners A Kanwar (3-18), A Katti (2-10), S Purukaustha (2-1) along with Das (2-25) demolished the Vidarbha innings.
Das finished with a match haul of seven wickets.
Earlier, Assam resumed at an overnight 10 without loss and played an attacking game as they went after the home team's bowlers reachihng 187 for six as the lunch time drew near.
R Parida (89) spearheaded the onslaught before Vidarbha medium pacer Umesh Yadav (4-11) struck with three wickets in one over to leave the visitors all out at stroke of lunch for 193 off 35.5 overs.
Jacob Martin (23), D Sharma (19) and S Purukaustha (19) chipped in with useful contributions.
