Patiala(Punjab): Punjab police busted a betting racket in this town, 80 km from the venue of the second Test match between England and India in Mohali, and arrested 13 bookies.

The police recovered almost Rs 43 lakh in cash from a site they raided.

Superintendent of police Gurmeet Singh said that the kingpin of the betting racket was Satpal, who was among those arrested.

The bookies were in touch with their counterparts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the police said.

The arrested people belong to Bathinda district of Punjab and Hanumangarh in neighbouring Rajasthan. They have been charged with cheating, forgery, conspiracy and also under sections of the Gambling Act.

The police also seized three laptops, 40 mobile phones, six digital recorders, TV sets and dish antennas from the arrested bookies.
