New Delhi: If you thought the IPL was a dazzling entertainer, the Champions League could be better. At least that’s what Shane Watson - the Aussie all-rounder and a Rajasthan Royal player thinks.
Some believe that the Australian star is keen to replicate his phenomenal IPL performance in the forthcoming Champions League T20 for his team Rajasthan Royals.
Watson, in an exclusive chat with CNN-IBN's Sanjeeb Mukherjea said that the Champions League would be even bigger and better than the IPL, and added that the Royals will be one of the big favourites.
CNN-IBN: You must be getting ready for the Champions League?
Shane Watson: Absolutely. It is going to be really exciting. I just can't wait to be a part of it. It is going to be a lot of fun and entertainment.
CNN-IBN: Do you think the Champions League -- the concept itself will be bigger than what you have seen in the IPL?
Shane Watson: I think it will be. There are eight teams involved and it is going to expand to 12 teams in the second year. So, over time there is no doubt that it is going to be absolutely massive, even bigger than the IPL.
CNN-IBN: In fact, IPL had its own fairytale with Rajasthan Royals winning the inaugural IPL and you played such a huge role in that, so your team also goes into this tournament as one of the big favourites?
Shane Watson: Absolutely. And if we can continue on our form that we showed during the IPL then there is no reason why we cannot continue to perform well and hopefully make it to the finals of the Champions League. We did play some great cricket during the IPL and hopefully the great man -- Shane Warne will give his best again and will continue to lead the side well and give us a great chance of performing well.
CNN-IBN: But for once accept the fact that Royals and Chennai Superkings are here but we do not have the city based teams in Champions League, so, do you think that the Indian spectators will take to this Champions League the same way they did take to the IPL?
Shane Watson: I am not exactly sure. But it will be interesting to see if the Indian public really does take to the Champions League as they did the IPL. But we will be very lucky and it will be a big advantage for us -- the Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Superkings to have a lot of home team advantage with the Indian supporters supporting us.
