London: India’s young leg spinner Piyush Chawla made a memorable debut for Sussex when he followed up his maiden century with a six for 152 against Worcestershire in the county championship (round four) at New Road on Sunday.
Sussex crushed Worcestershire by ten wickets.
Worcestershire, playing at home, fought hard to save the match with Moeen Ali smashing 124. He along with Daryl Mitchell added 208 runs off 63overs for the fourth wicket.
However, soon after both the in-form batsmen fell in quick session, the home team collapsed losing seven wickets for 111 runs after James Kirtley made the break-through when he had Ali caught down the leg side.
Chawla then took over, removing Mitchell and Ashley Noffke in quick succession and went on to scalp Gareth Batty as well.
Michael Yardy and Chris Nash scored the 61 runs needed for victory in just ten overs to give Sussex their first championship victory for eleven months.
