Colombo: They talk about "confusion" as if it is a form of dyslexia and that becomes the dysfunctional norm in this part of the world.
Rumours on how former Sri Lanka Test captain Hashan Tillekeratne had been appointed then 'fired' as manager left most foreign and Indian journalists bemused although he said he was still the manager.
Then there is the suggestion that Chris Broad's appointment as match referee for the limited overs series following the Idea Cup Test Series was 'controversial' and likely to result in an official objection from Sri Lanka Cricket. This has been shot down by the International Cricket Council.
It seems that those "objecting" to Broad have short memories. While it is known the players don't have a problem with the former English opening batsman, it seams there is a smear campaign before the limited overs series starts in Dambulla next month.
Broad was match referee in Sri Lanka's last foreign tour, when they played in the Caribbean, and no objection was raised then, or in 2006 when he was to referee the Unitech Cup triangular series that involved India, South Africa and Sri Lanka. That series is still to be played.
"There has been no official complaint about Broad's appointment from Sri Lanka," said Brian Murgatroyd, the senior ICC media liaison officer, when asked the position.
"In any case, under ICC regulations no country can object to a match referee's appointment," he confirmed.
