Dada's outburst understandable: Gavaskar

New Delhi: Sourav Ganguly found support from Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar, who sympathised with the former Indian captain for his outburst against the treatment meted out to him, but added that his words had harmed the team's harmony and could have waited for the series to get over.
In an interview to Bengali daily Aaj Kaal, Ganguly lashed out at the way he was ignored for the Irani Cup game for Rest of India which prompted his decision to retire from international cricket. He went on to add that there were several other players in the side who hadn't contributed much but remained in the Indian team.
Gavaskar agreed with him. Speaking to CNN-IBN, he said: "Ever since he made his Test debut in 1996, people have raised fingers over Ganguly's inclusion in the side, and it has remained to date. So one can sympathise with his feelings that he has always been singled out during selection issues."
"His outburst is understandable," he said.
However, Gavaskar warned that Ganguly's statement against his colleagues could sour the mood in the team.
"By saying these things, he hasn't helped himself. This will certainly affect the harmony in the dressing room. He could have said these things once the series was over," he added.
