New Delhi: India's Twenty20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to replace Rahul Dravid as the captain of the One-Day team while Sachin Tendulkar is to be offered the job for Test matches.

Sources told CNN-IBN that while Dhoni and Tendulkar were the frontrunner, former skipper Sourav Ganguly could be the dark horse.

Dhoni will in all probability lead the team in the One-Day series against Australia that starts on September 29. The selection committee is already impressed with his maturity and believes he will be the natural option to lead in the ODIs after his experience of the Twenty20 World Championship.

Dhoni is already the vice-captain of the ODI team while Tendulkar was named as Dravid's deputy for the Test series against England.

Tendulkar is the senior-most player in the team and has done the job twice before although with little success.

However, Ganguly, who has been India's most successful captain, has recently made an incredible comeback and has the experience of a job well done and he could also be given the reins if Tendulkar or Dhoni are not given the job.

Dravid had indicated his decision to quit to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sharad Pawar on Thursday.

The BCCI issued a press release on Friday in which Dravid was quoted as saying that he was no longer interested in leading the team and wanted to concentrate on his batting.
