New Delhi: The nation erupted as soon as S Sreesanth took the catch of Misbah-ul-Haq and India won the Twenty20World Championship at the New Wanderers in Johannesburg on Monday night. It was a dream come true for the Indian fans as for them cricket is not a sport but a religion.

People, who were hooked on to their television screens for every ball of the nerve-wracking encounter, poured out on the streets to celebrate their team's victory.

And in Johannesburg, India led by the new skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, draped themselves in the tri-colours - a sight that every Indian dreams of.

"I thought it was superb team spirit and team effort that helped us win the match. I am not taking any credit for the victory," Dhoni said after India completed a thrilling five-run win over Pakistan, adding, "I give credit to my team because they enjoyed each other's success during this tournament. They took up the responsibilities when needed."

In fact, 2007 has been the year when India were knocked in the first round out of the One-Day World Cup in the West Indies, but came up trumps in the Twenty20 World Championships. And it did it without the three pillars - Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

And Tendulkar told CNN-IBN that teamwork mattered most.

"I thought it was just spectacular. We are all celebrating here. We have opened a few bottles of champagne and sprayed it all over the house. It's a wonderful moment I celebrated with my friends here," Tendulkar said after India won the tournament in South Africa.
