New Delhi: As he prepares to lead the Bengal squad against Punjab in a Ranji match at Mohali in a week's time, former India captain Saurav Ganguly has found a supporter in former South African speedster Allan Donald, who believes Ganguly still has a lot to offer to Indian cricket.

"I still think that Sourav has got a huge role to play in Indian cricket and it's success. I don't know the feeling between Ganguly and Greg Chappell at the momentp; I can just gather that it's not a friendly one. But I hope certainly that he gets back in there because he is a hell of a good player and he still has got too much to offer to Indian cricket," says Donald, also known as 'The White Lightening'.

Ganguly, ousted from the Indian team after poor performances and a highly publicised tiff with coach Greg Chappell, will lead a 14-member team at Mohali in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group P opener from November 23 to 26.

Ganguly, who had stepped down from the Bengal captaincy last year paving the way for Deep Dasgupta to lead the side, would remain in the saddle 'as long as he was available' for Bengal team duties this season, CAB joint secretary Saradindu Paul said on Thursday.
