Bangalore: Indian bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan said it was hard work for fast bowlers on the unresponsive M Chinnaswamy stadium wicket and was particularly pleased with his five-wicket haul on the second day of the first Test against the Australians for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy here on Friday.

"It's a special feeling to take wickets anywhere, and more so on a wicket which did not help fast bowlers. We had to work very hard to take wickets, it was sheer hard work for our bowlers," he said after helping the hosts bowl out Australia for 430.

"It was very important for us to keep up the tempo even when Michael Hussey was getting runs along with the lower down batsmen and I think we kept up the intensity despite him batting very well," he added.

Admitting that he was trying too much in his first spell, Zaheer said holding himself back from going flat out in his second spell — where he took the last three Aussie wickets within a space of eleven balls — helped him to perform better.

"I was little more attacking in the first spell and it did not work for me. In the second spell I held myself back a bit and it worked wonders for me," he said.

Praising his young new ball partner Ishant Sharma, Zaheer said, he enjoyed bowling in tandem with him.

"Ishant is bowling very well. It is good to bowl in tandem with him. It was good to chip in for the team's cause taking nine wickets between us," he said.

Complementing the two Indian openers' efforts, Zaheer said after restricting the Aussies it was very important to get a sound start and Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir did not let them down.

"It was very important for us to get a good start when we batted. I think Viru and Gautam have given us a good start without losing any wickets. Let's see how it goes from here on," he said.

When asked to predict the outcome of the match, Zaheer said it was very hard to predict a result at the moment.

"It is very hard to predict the outcome of this match at this moment as it is too early. I cannot say anything right now," he said.
