Manchester: Andrew Flintoff has signed a three-year contract to play one-day cricket with English county side Lancashire.

Flintoff has played for the northwest side for his entire career but wanted a new agreement to free him from four-day championship matches and allow him to play for teams in other countries.

Flintoff, who retired from Test cricket after helping England regain the Ashes in August, is recovering from right knee surgery.

He wants to become the world's best limited-overs player and says playing elsewhere will "hopefully help me develop as a player and in turn help Lancashire and England."
