New Delhi: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is likely to be sent to South Africa to help the beleaguered Indian cricket team.

According to sources, Ganguly will be picked for the Test team that will be selected on November 30 and what is surprising is that he may be included in the team after a request from the team management.

Ganguly had a tiff with coach Greg Chappell when India toured South Africa last year and Chappell had even e-mailed the Board of Control for Cricket in India that Ganguly was not fit to lead the team.

The e-mail was leaked to the media and had led to massive crisis in the Indian cricket that saw Ganguly being axed as the skipper. He also lost his place in the team.

With Chappell still the coach of Team India, Ganguly’s likely inclusion signals that the Australian has finally come to accept the view that experience cannot be altogether discarded.

Along with Ganguly, Delhi opener Gautam Gambhir and Punjab pacer VRV Singh may also find themselves on the plane to South Africa.

The Indian batsmen have been having a tough time against the South African pacers in the One-Dayers. The visitors have lost the second and the third ODI by massive margins after the first match at Johannesburg was washed out.

With the inexperienced batsmen finding the going tough, the selection committee is thinking of bolstering the Test team with some experience.

Skipper Rahul Dravid is already out of the remaining two matches of the One-Day series with a fractured finger and also in doubt for the first Test. Ganguly, with an experience of 88 Tests and 12 centuries will give the much-needed boost the India middle order.

VVS Laxman has already been recalled to the team after Dravid was ruled out of the ODI series.

The first Test of the three-match series starts on December 15 in Johannesburg.
