New Delhi: Is Sachin Tendulkar the greatest batsman of all time? Quite a few experts seem to think so, but the legendary West Indies all-rounder Sir Gary Sobers believes another Indian great makes a strong case.

Sobers said former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar is the greatest batsman to have played the game.

"Gavaskar is the best in my estimate because at that time the West Indies had a team that was unplayable," said Sobers.

"It is always difficult to make comparisons but when you think of great batsmen, you think of Gavaskar, you think of Brian Lara, you think of Viv Richards, you think of Sachin Tendulkar. It is a very difficult choice," he added.

"But in my own perspective of classy players, because of the era he was playing in, I think Gavaskar will be my greatest player," concluded Sobers.

Sunil Gavaskar was the first man to reach 10, 000 Test runs.
