Sydney: West Indies skipper Chris Gayle has vowed to score a century for his ill mother in the first Test of the Frank Worrell Trophy starting Thursday.

Gayle's mother, Heazlyn Gilroy, was admitted to the Medical Associates Hospital in Kingston last week with a heart problem, forcing Gayle to immediately rush back from Brisbane to Jamaica and putting in doubt his participation in the first Test.

However, his mother made a speedy recovery and was released from the hospital on Saturday, allowing the 30-year-old to fly back.

After arriving in Brisban Gayle cheekily posted on his Twitter page that he was not only ready to take the field, but also to score a century for his Mom, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

When asked by a follower of his Twitter profile, if he would dedicate a century to his mother, Gayle responded: “need 1 for mom for sure lol the rest for yall.”

Earlier it was reported that Gayle was likely to miss the entire Australian tour as he was returning to the Caribbean to take care of a seriously ill mother.

He also missed the opening tour match against Queensland at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on November 18.

Gayle was on hand at training and batted in the nets. He also confirmed that he was prepared to play in the first Test.
