Gujarat beat Punjab by 10 wickets

Ahmedabad: Bowlers Siddharth Trivedi and Ashraf Makda shared eight wickets between them and steered Gujarat to an emphatic 10-wicket victory over Punjab on the penultimate day of the four-day Group A Ranji Trophy match here on Monday.
Trivedi took five wickets, while Makda scalped three as the visitors were bundled out for 192 in the second innings.
Trivedi had scalped four wickets, while Makda bagged five in the first innings as Punjab continued their dismal performance in the second edition also. They had folded up for 137 in reply to Gujarat's first innings total of 300.
Resuming their second innings at 107/4 after being forced to follow on, Punjab were all out for 192.
Gujarat, needing just 30 runs to win the game, reached the target in the seventh over in mere 32 minutes. Nilesh Modi (14) and Bhavin Thaker (19) remained unbeaten in the second innings as the hosts reached 34 without loss.
For Punjab, U Kaul played a useful knock and made unbeaten 56 in 118 balls. He got good support from A Kakkar who scored 33 runs.
Together they put up 63 runs for the fifth wicket before Kakkar was caught by B Thaker off Trivedi. This was the highest partnership for Punjab in both innings. With this outright victory, second one this season, Gujarat has gained six points.
