Ahmedabad: Gujarat was sitting comfortably in the driving seat after forcing Punjab into a follow-on at the end of second day's play in their Ranji Trophy Super League Group A match at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, near here on Sunday.
At stumps, Punjab were 107 for four wickets in their second innings after they were bundled out for mere 137 in the first essay.
U Kaul (13) and A Kakkar (12) were at crease at the close of play.
Resuming their first innings at 291/5, Gujarat middle and lower order failed miserably as they were bowled out for 300, adding just nine runs to their overnight score.
Gangandeep Singh (5/59) and M S Gony (3/68) ripped thorough Gujarat's middle and lower order to restrict the hosts within 300, a feat which was unimaginable.
However, Gujarat bowlers took command of the situation with Siddharth Trivedi and Ashraf Makda leading the attack.
The duo bowled brilliantly to see the visitors totter at 16 for the loss of seven wickets in just eight overs.
The Punjab innings crumbled like a pack of cards as none of the top order batsmen was able to reach double figures.
