Potchefstroom: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has joined the Indian cricket team in South Africa.
On Thursday, India play a warm up match ahead of the three-match Test series and all eyes will be on the comeback man.
Joining his teammates for a nets session at Sedgars Park in Potchefstroom, Ganguly went up to coach Greg Chappell who has often been caricatured as a sworn enemy of the ex-skipper for a handshake.
It was perhaps a sign of the changing times in Indian cricket. Defeat after defeat has meant the burden to script a revival has fallen on the experienced heads like Ganguly.
With skipper Rahul Dravid still unsure of playing in the first Test at Johannesburg from December 15, Ganguly will be under pressure to come good with the bat.
Vice-captain VVS Laxman was a relieved man to see Ganguly back in the team.
"Sourav has been a tremendous player for the team and his return will boost the confidence of the team. We all have tremendous respect for Sourav. So obviously we are looking forward where not only Sourav but the entire team performs," Laxman said.
The batting must come good and the team management knows it. Infact Laxman is convinced the raw material for a revival is very much available.
"I think the potential in the team is amazing. There are some good match winners in the team who have done well in the past. I think we can take inspiration from the tours like Australia. If we concentrate on our positives and play to our potential then we can do well," Laxman said
Most Indian players did not show much emotion when Ganguly arrived in South Africa.
A rather subdued welcome is perhaps a sign of the changing equations in the Indian team. Hopefully Ganguly's return will result in bringing better results for Team India.

Ganguly should announce his retirement from international Cricket before 15th December. Else he won\''t get place to hide his face.
