Ranchi: Jharkhand were 60 for one in their first innings in reply to Himachal Pradesh's 551 for eight declared on the second day of their Plate Division Ranji Trophy match here on Sunday.
Manish Vardhan (31) and Ishant Jaggi (27) saw off the day after the hosts suffered an early blow when opener Subroto Ghosh was adjudged leg before off Ashok Thakker.
The two batsmen on crease doggedly negotiated Test discard Sarandeep Singh before the close of day's play.
Resuming their overnight first innings score of 387 for one, the two overnight batsmen added only eight runs before Sangram Singh (210) gave a simple catch to Subroto Ghosh of Kuldeep Sharma.
Soon after Bhavin Thakker (166) was bowled by Y Krishnartry, triggering a middle-order collapse that saw Himachal reducing to 430 for five from a strong 387 for one.
Mukesh Sharma's unbeaten 56 and Ajay Mannu's brisk 36 helped the visitors post the mammoth total.
Jharkhand skipper S S Rao and Sujit Roy returned with figures of three for 138 and three for 66 respectively.
