New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir has emerged as a formidable member of India's batting line-up this season and in the new year that brings with it new challenges, Gambhir is eagerly waiting for a go. Gambhir spoke to CNN-IBN's Pavitra Sazawal and began by reflecting on his partnership with state-mate Virender Sehwag.
On Virender Sehwag
It's one of the best things that has happened in my career and we share a very good relationship. We play for the same state and the same IPL team as well; so having him on the other end is of great help. I can just walk up to him and I can discuss anything under the sun with him.
On adjustments in different formats
Your basic game remains the same. You just go out there to score runs rather than looking to survive. That is one aspect that will never change. You have to do a couple of adjustments when you are playing Test cricket; you have to be more selective. I think that is one thing that I have done really well in last one year.
On his consistency in 2008
I have always had the faith that I am going to be a very successful player at the international level. I just needed a little bit of security and that's what I got last year and I always said to myself that the day things turn in my favour, I am going to make the most of it and not take any game lightly. There were times when I had done very well in the first innings and there are chances of being complacent in the second but I kept telling myself that 'you have lost a lot of years in the past; so you have to make the most of it when things are going your way and never take any inning or game lightly.' So that is one big change that has happened.
