Hyderabad: The timing of hosting the Indian Cricket League (ICL) matches at the time when Indian team is playing a crucial and important Test series against Australia is not wrong, according to the former Australian Test cricketer and member of the Ahmedabad Rockets team Jason Gillespie.
"India has several cricket fans and the most of the ICL matches are played in late evenings which give them enough opportunity to enjoy non-stop cricket and I don't think this takes away their interest in the game. I have been getting positive reports back in Australia and from England about the ICL matches. People ask about this form of cricket and they also inquire about the ICL," he said.
The 34-year-old Gillespie may have been disappointed over today's loss against Delhi Giants team but is hopeful about his performance ahead.
Rockets will be playing an important match on Tuesday here against Chennai Superstars before going to play other games in Ahmedabad.
"It will be our home ground and we hope to perform better against our supporters in Ahmedabad," he further added.
Jason Gillespie's bouncing mullet, hook nose and spofforth-like glare were a pleasing constant in Australian pace attacks during the first half of the 2000s. He could capture only two wickets today.
"We tried to bowl better but fell short of very few runs."
But under the coaching of former England bowler John Emburey, he hopes his team would perform better.
