Ishant is more talented than me: Gillespie

Mumbai: Former Aussie fast bowler Jason Gillespie, who toured India during the 2004 series along with Glenn McGrath and now plays for Ahmedabad Rockets in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), said India’s new bowling sensation Ishant Sharma is more talented than himself at his age.

"I think Ishant is a revelation for India. He is sharp and nibs the ball-in, which was quite like me. He is tall and has long hair which I too had during my playing days but surely he is more talented than me. I think they (Indians) should look after him and give him enough rest so that he is not overtaxed," Gillespie has been quoted as saying in the DNA newspaper on Tuesday.

"It is tough for a fast bowler to recover fast. The current series between India and Australia is a four match series and I think fast bowlers should be given some rest as well. In 2004 we had Michael Kasprowicz, who was very successful, but the current set of Aussie fast bowlers lack experience. It is a tough place for fast bowlers to bowl unlike Kasprowicz, who had a very effective and good slower delivery at that time," he added.

"The current pace attack is good but they need to be patient while bowling on Indian wickets. I don’t see any problem in their pace attack as Brett Lee is the fastest bowler, Stuart Clark is steady and is more of a line and length bowler which is quite good. Mitchell is a talented youngster, who can swing both ways and the young Peter Siddle is fantastic, runs in hard and has got a beautiful action. I think it is one of the best but no one can replace McGrath," Gillespie observed.
