London: The losing captain in the ICC World T20 final Kumar Sangakkara, whose team was unbeaten throughout the tournament till Pakistan ran away with the trophy, spoke to CNN-IBN in an exclusive after the game.

"It (the final) was a tough day for us but I think the result does not do justice to the kind of cricket we have played in this tournament, to the way all the players have responded and to the magnificent performances we have put up," said Sangakkara.

On what went wrong

"We had a few things that went wrong for us, especially our batting in the first six overs but we made a fight of it and we did a great job to get into the finals. We would have liked to w in it but we were beaten by a better side on the day," observed Sangakkara

"I think they (Pakistan) bowled to a disciplined line and length and probably we tried too much to dominate them. And when they batted, they did not lose any wickets in the first six overs. I think they outplayed us in that department and that was the difference in the game," he added.

"This was a better wicket than we played on against Pakistan earlier. I think anything near 140 is going to be a great target from the stage we were, losing six wickets for 70 runs. But may be were 20 runs too short to challenge Pakistan.

"And Shahid Afridi batted really intelligently. It was not the usual Shahid Afridi we know but in the semi-final and in the final, he pulled it together and inspired his team to victory," stated the Lankan skipper.

On the Pakistan team

They are a unpredictable side and they are a great side. They have great players and can beat any side on their day. You just have to be lucky enough to catch them on their off days. But they played a very disciplined game and a very smart game and that's where they won the game.
