Mumbai: Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss says his bowlers have chalked out plans to curb Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag in the third and final Test starting at the P Saravanamuttu Stadium from Friday.
"Sehwag played an exceptional knock at Galle, and we have to make sure that we bowl straight and get him early in the third Test. His knock of 201 took the match away from us and the manner he got those runs was amazing," he was quoted as saying in the Sri Lankan media on Thursday.
Coach Trevor Bayliss indicated that the Indian team might struggle in the final Test as their other experienced batsmen, including Sachin Tendulkar, are struggling to find form.
"There was nothing to choose between the two teams apart from Sehwag's smashing knock and Ishant's (Sharma) fine burst of fast bowling," the Sri Lankan coach said.
"If our bowlers can restrict Sehwag and our top order batsmen can negotiate Ishant, half our battle would have been won."
But the Sri Lankan batting order did show chinks of its own when Ishant Sharma produced a probing spell of fast bowling which led to its collapse.
"Along with Sehwag, Ishant Sharma delivered a very impressive spell in the second innings of the second Test to pick up three wickets though I would not like to blame our batsmen for the collapse. It happens once in a while and the mood in the dressing room is a bit low right now," he admitted.
"However, we have a very potential spin attack in Murali and Mendis and I am sure the Indian batsmen will have to do something special to outplay them in the next Test.
"Even after losing the Galle Test, we manage to take 20 wickets in the match and that is a positive sign and hope we can put up a better show in the final Test," he added.
