Man of the moment Sourav Ganguly, who just been included for the Test team to South Africa after a gap of nine-months spoke to CNN-IBN’s Bhupendra Chaubey on Face the Nation.

Bhupendra Chaubey: Tell me Sourav, was this a recall that you were expecting?

Sourav Ganguly: I didn’t expect anything but hopes will always be there when you pick a team for the country. I am happy that I’m selected.

Bhupendra Chaubey: There are many people Sourav, who have been critical of your performances abroad. You are looked at as someone who can’t play on fast, bouncy tracks. Would you like to clarify that perception?

Sourav Ganguly: I have got hundreds in Australia, in England and in South Africa also. I don’t think that’s a fair call.

Bhupendra Chaubey: So what has Sourav Ganguly been up to all this while?

Sourav Ganguly: I just played cricket and worked on my game. I spent time with the Bengal cricket team. I was lucky enough to be a part of a good team in Bengal where we were winning. That helped me a lot. I only worked on my cricket, that’s all.

Bhupendra Chaubey: Team India has been performing terribly these days. It's really going through one of its worst patches. What according to you has gone wrong with this team which you once led?

Sourav Ganguly: I'm sure it's a phase and I'm sure that we will come out of it. It's the same bunch of boys who had done well. Capability is very much there, we just have to gain our confidence back. The sooner we come out of this phase, the better it would be.

Bhupendra Chaubey: Does Sourav Ganguly still have the required hunger to get a hundred in South Africa?

Sourav Ganguly: A lot of cricketers around the world who are 33 that is of my age are performing. So there is no reason why I will not have the hunger. When you get picked for Team India, the hunger to perform well comes automatically. Had I not had that hunger, I would not have continued playing cricket till this stage.

Bhupendra Chaubey: Do you see your selection as a stepping stone both for One-Day matches as well as Test cricket?
