Indore: Riding on the fine bowling displays by Sanjay Pandey and Yogesh Golwalkar, Madhya Pradesh defeated Assam by an innings and 59 runs in third day of Ranji Trophy's Plate League Group-B match at Emerald Heights International School Grounds here on Sunday.

Pandey baffled the opponent's batting department to bag four wickets for 50 runs, while he got required supports from Golwalkar, who took three wickets spending 34 runs.

It was fantastic show by the hosts, who came back into the game creditably and the 83-run partnership between Assam's Jacob Martin and Sarupam Purkayastha failed to disturb the flow of the Madhya Pradesh bowlers. Jacob scored a fighting 49, while Sarupam scored gutsy 39.

By this win, the hosts have increased their tally to 15 points from three matches, while Assam has five points from two matches.
