New Delhi: The heady mix of politics and cricket has led to fiery exchange of words between the coach of Team India Greg Chappell and Members of Parliament.

India's poor run in the One-Day series against South Africa where they have lost the first two matches by huge margins have seen the MPs demanding an explanation from the team management.

However, despite two massive defeats coach Greg Chappell is unfazed about the criticism.

"They are entitled to make any comment they like. That's what they are paid to do in Parliament," Chappell said after India's 106-run defeat in the third One-Dayer at Cape Town against South Africa.

He was reacting to questions about criticism from the MPs following India's abject surrender in the second One-Dayer in Durban.

India's 157-run loss to South Africa in the first ODI at Durban had evoked strong reaction from the MPs who did not mince words in denouncing Chappell's ways of guiding the side.

BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Kumar Malhotra said BCCI President Sharad Pawar must take some hard decisions to ensure India's poor run came to an end.

"People feel hurt after they watch the performance of the Indian cricket team. Since Pawar is BCCI chief, he should tell what are the steps he is taking to save the team from continuous defeats," he said.

"What he thinks about the coach has to be decided by him," he added.

Holding Chappell responsible for the defeats, RPI MP Ramdas Athawale demanded removal of the coach and non-performing players.
