'Mumbai mayhem puts administrators on toes'

Karachi: Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq feels the deadly Mumbai terror strikes would make the job tough for cricket administrators, who will have to be on their toes all the time to ensure safety and security of players and officials.
Inzamam said Pakistani players were in Ahmedabad and New Delhi when the Mumbai tragedy happened and they faced no problems as the security was very good there.
"But there is no doubt that incidents like what happened in Mumbai are a big setback for the sport and can harm it in the long run," he said.
"Organisers now need to be more realistic and have to provide high alert security at all times during cricket tournaments and series for teams, officials and other stakeholders," he added.
Inzamam, who returned to Lahore after the ICL World series was cancelled due to Mumbai attacks, also expressed confidence that cricket activities will resume soon in India.
"As far as I know the ICL organisers have the intention of resuming activities afresh in February and March next year. Once the dates are finalised we will go back to India to play the matches. We have no security concerns playing in India."
Inzamam, Mohammed Yousuf and other players who have aligned with the ICL have been banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board from playing domestic or international cricket.
He said Pakistan would miss services of Yousuf and players like Abdul Razzaq, Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Rana Naved and Mohammad Sami who according to him were still good enough to represent the national side.
"I hope they are at least allowed to play domestic cricket so that the standard of competition in our domestic cricket improves," he said.
