New Delhi: It is raining money on Indian players for their glorious ICC Twenty20 World Championship triumph in South Africa.

But the two Pathan brothers - Yusu and Irfan - who brought glory to the country have been ignored by their home state Gujarat.

While every other state has announced rewards for their cricketers, Gujarat has not announced any award for the duo.

Despite the fact that Irfan Pathan was named the Man of the Match for his remarkable performance in the Twenty20 World Championship final, the Narendra Modi government is yet to announce any reward for him or his brother Yusuf.

In contrast, the governments of Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Delhi have announced lakhs of rupees in cash and other awards for the team members from their states.

The awards:

  • Haryana: Cash reward of Rs 21 lakh for Joginder Sharma.
  • Uttar Pradesh: 'Kanshiram International Sports Award' and Rs 10 lakh for RP Singh.
  • Jharkhand: First ever 'Jharkhand Ratna' Award and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh for Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
  • Maharashtra: Cash incentive of Rs 10 lakh each to Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma.
  • Delhi: Cash award of Rs 5 lakh each to Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag.
  • Himachal Pradesh: A week's free stay to all the members of the team in HP Tourism Development Corporation hotels.

And now the neglect by the Gujarat government of the Pathan brothers is becoming a political issue in the state. The opposition Congress says it reflects the real face of the Modi government.

"Isse ek encouragement youth ko bhi milta aur sports ko badhawa milta. Per Modi ji jo Gujarat ke Mukyamantri hain ye mante hain ki unse bada koi Gujarati ho hi nahi sakta (Announcing some award would have encouraged youngsters. But the Chief Minister thinks he is the biggest Gujarati," a Congress leader said.

On the other hand BJP MLA Upendrasingh Gohil announced a cash reward of Rs 1.10 lakh for the Pathan brothers.

"Is baat ki bahut khusi ho rahi hai mujhe ki Gohil saheb jo hamare MLA hain yehaan aaye. Aaj kal kis neta ko time milta hai. Ye aaye isska bahut bahut shukkriya (I am very happy that our MLA has come to our house. Today how many leaders have the time? I am very happy and thank him)," Mehboob Pathan said.
