Kumble left speechless by Sehwag's knock

New Delhi: After a fairytale comeback at Galle, powered largely by Virender Sehwag's cavalier double century, India skipper Anil Kumble was at loss for words when it came to describing the flamboyant opener's bravado.

"Just looking back at Sehwag's knock in the first innings, I'm actually struggling for words to describe how incredible it was," Kumble wrote in his column for the Hindustan Times.

"To score more than 60 per cent of the runs the team made and bat through out the innings was the kind of effort the team is not going to forget," he added.

Kumble said that the start which the openers provided was extremely crucial and gave the team the added impetus to grasp the early momentum. Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir gave India solid starts in both the innings, a big reason behind India's victory.

"The manner in which Sehwag and Gambhir gave us early momentum while still protecting the opening partnership, was something crucial," he stated.

India's loss in the first Test, their third biggest in history, really hurt them but the win at Galle has given them a realistic chance of winning the series. India, like Sri Lanka in the first Test, wrapped up the game within four days, a sweet revenge that Kumble feels was 'something special.'

"It was something we needed after the first Test where we were outplayed and as a team, felt hurt. There is nothing to match the feeling of winning. We always knew we had it in us but to wrap the match in four days was something special," said Kumble.

"Our team showed the right kind of controlled aggression through the course of the Test and we came on top," he added.

Though India won the second Test comprehensively but their middle order still seems brittle and shaky. Apart from Sehwag and Gambhir, the experienced batting line-up was once again at sea and buckled under pressure in Galle. But the Indian skipper downplayed the problem.

"The middle order is so full of runs and quality that it's not a major worry for us," he said.
