Mumbai: The Cricket Board had recommended the names of stylish Hyderabad batsman V V S Laxman, who joined the elite 100-Test club recently, and India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to the government for the Padma Awards this year.

"We had recommended the names of Laxman and Dhoni for the Padma awards to the government," BCCI sources said here today.

While Dhoni, who has been conferred the highest sporting honour-- Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna-- was named in the Padma awards list, Laxman was ignored.

The BCCI sources also confirmed that India off spinner Harbhajan Singh, who got the Padma Shri honour instead, was not in the BCCI's recommended name this year.

Harbhajan is the second-highest Test wicket-taker among Indian spinners after Anil Kumble.
